Health visitor

I had a call from the health visitor today (31 plus 1) wanting to visit next week. I didn’t realise anyone would come until baby is here, does anyone know the point of her visit or has had this?

My midwife asked me if I wanted someone to visit to check sleeping arrangements and give advice on stuff we need 😊 I think it’s optional

Mine wasn't optional x but tbh she was here like 10 mins max and just asked me if I needed help or advice with anything and asked about what support I have in place for when baby comes.

I had it with my first, it’s more for you if you have any questions, and to open the door so if you do need to contact them you feel comfortable to do so. Honestly, mine was a chit chat and I was offered one this time and haven’t taken up the offer. They’ll take about safe sleep, ask if you plan to breastfeed, and if you do tell you where the support is, and talk about the benefits of skin to skin in the early days. They’ll also mention the baby blues vs PPD and check you have a support network.

Like others have said, it’s really just to introduce the service and they run through a little questionnaire about home life, where baby is going to sleep, feeding etc They don’t visit in person prior to baby arriving in the trust I live in but I’ve got a video call with them next week. I think last time it took about 30 mins x

I declined until after baby is born, I don’t see the point in visiting before baby is here. It’s not my first baby, there only appointments are when I’m in work and I don’t need advice on safe sleep etc. If it’s baby 1, it can be useful but I found it more of a hindrance last time and very inconvenient at every stage.

HV here. It’s normally to introduce the service, talk about what they do when the baby is born and go through feeding/safe sleep/crying

I’ve got a call yesterday asking can she come the same day so I refused , she called during my nap time😅😅😅 So i told her to book in two weeks with me after kids holidays😅😅😅 It is all about your home, your mental health, and partner. As I remember 5 years ago questions was ridiculous….
