Ultrasound 20 weeks

So baby #2 has a high Nuchal translucency. The normal is 6.0 and baby was at a 6.2. This means that it is more likely that the baby could have chromosomal abnormalities and genetic problems. I did do a NIPT test & that all came back low risk. I can do an amniocentesis and try and get more info. Has anyone been through this?

Did they do the AFP-100 maternal serum test? My doctor said the NT is for ruling out Down syndrome and that’s on the NIPT as trisomy 21. The AFP-100 I guess is another test that checks for that alone with spins bifida. It seemed like a normal test that my doctor ordered and my insurance covered it. I’m not sure amnio would be covered if you’re under 35 and it’s a lot more risky than NIPT.

@Delaney nope they just did my ultrasound

@Delaney Nipt was normal

@Tyra did your doctor say anything about NT? I just know NIPT is more accurate than NT. I personally wouldn’t do amnio but if you’re worried I’d ask your doctor what they think about the NT result vs NIPT.

@Delaney they told me not to worry but when you talk about genetic abnormalities It’s not something I could just wait to find out

@Delaney yeah they just said it was abnormal

@Tyra well if it helps you to feel better NIPT only has a 5% false negative rate. I think it’s safe to say the chances are extremely low of the NT mattering which is probably why your doctor said don’t worry about it. I know this is difficult tho - my carrier results came back for a horrible spinal muscular disorder and I had my husband tested immediately but luckily he was negative.
