Naps (or lack of!)

Hi all I feel like I’ve tried every trick/tip there is to extend my babies day time naps, it works for one nap or a day then the next it stops working. She is 5.5 months old and her evening sleep is pretty good so I’m not going to complain about it, I’m just putting her down as a cat napper. My question is - do naps lengthen on their own with age? Or must I be doing SOMETHING to extend her day time sleep? Also when do wake windows not count anymore, and a clock based schedule comes in?

Do you feed her when she wakes from a nap? I only ask as I’ve been reading for the past 5 months to try and follow eat play sleep which I’ve been doing then yesterday I read on one of my apps that it doesn’t apply at this point anymore and to feed half an hour before nap time to help prevent short naps due to hunger so I’m going to give that a go going forward as my little one is the same lately and it’s driving me bonkers 🙃

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t, it just depends how her feed or nap falls. For example in the morning we’ll usually get up around 7.30, have a bottle at 7.45 but her wake window can be up to 2.5 hours and she goes every 3/3.5 hours for a feed so I find it hard to line it up right 😖 xx

I’ve been trying a new technique lately. A babies sleep cycle at this age is 30 minutes, if you go in at around 20/25 minutes and nudge them (not enough to wake them), it can reset their sleep cycle and they’ll go longer! It does take timing it well but it’s working for us for a few naps now! And ultimately if they do wake fully, they were likely to in the first place anyway
