In desperate need of advicešŸ˜©šŸ˜©šŸ˜©

Bit of a back story my sonā€™s dad and my brother both have ADHD. My son started nursery in September and since then I have been pulled into the school 4 times about his behaviour that he is hitting and punching other children and the children donā€™t want to play with him anymore and they are now saying to me that if his behaviour continues they will take ā€œfurther actionā€ When he started the nursery I told them about my brother and his dad and that he is an active child and they did a SEN assessment on him and said they had no behaviour concerns at the moment it was his attention and listening skills that needed work. Iā€™ve stopped all play fighting in the house and rough and tumble play but heā€™s still being like this at school and I just donā€™t know what to do anymore with him. I feel like the school are not managing him very well and are just saying heā€™s a naughty kid dispite his family history. Do I pull him out of nursery all together or put him in a different nursery better to deal with his behaviour?

I would suggest take him in a different nursery to deal better with his behaviour. You got this šŸ’—

@Imelda thank you, I just feel like I know something isnā€™t right with his behaviour but knowone will listen heā€™s just a ā€œnaughty kidā€

Having worked in education for a long time. Typically, children tend not to be diagnosed with things like ADHD while in nursery. Its usually when they are full time school age like 5 or 6. I am not sure why this is the case as I donā€™t specialise in additional needs.

@Becky yeah they told me if he does have ADHD he wonā€™t be diagnosed till heā€™s older but itā€™s just frustrating that they know itā€™s a possibility he could have it and they still donā€™t give him the additional help he needs xx

Adha aside for a moment. Is the nursery doing anything to support him? Help his understand his behaviour and teach him? Donā€™t think itā€™s right that they can threaten with further action. I genuinely thought you were describing a primary school. It maybe you need to find a setting that understands potential sen needs better. Have you spoken to a HV about your concerns just to keep him flagged in the system? Also does he should any other signs like hard to concentrate/figety/impulsive
