Im wanting to try as well but I still rock to sleep 🙈 so not sure if I should keep the dummy for now as my special magic power to try and get her to fall asleep on her own. Have heard so many people say oh its a few days of crying and then gets better but like you I cannot imagine how she will ever go to sleep without it!
@Sophie thanks so much, it’s reassuring to know that we can get back to putting her down in her cot. I guess I’ve got to go backwards to go forwards!
@CeeCee it seems impossible doesn’t it 🙈 If it’s at all reassuring, she’s actually sleeping the same as she was with the dummy. But it’s the process of actually getting her to sleep. I’ve seen a ‘soothing ladder’ that says that the dummy is the highest level of soothing, then rocking. So I’m definitely no expert but it sounds like it could be a good idea to stop the dummy before the rocking!
@CeeCee I’m in the same position as you
We did the same thing, we got rid of the dummy cold turkey when my little boy had a cold at 6 months. I personally did rock him to sleep for a few days for the transition, but whilst rocking him he held a muslin which would also lay the side of his face and after a few days he started to settle in the cot with a muslin without any rocking and we just take it away once he’s fully asleep but luckily he often doesn’t need it to resettle if he wakes up, just typically needs it when first going to bed. If you didn’t want to try and replace another comforter/sleep association, could always try the pick up put down method which did help us as well at the beginning with learning to self settle x
