No milk in breasts

So I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding for 3 and a half months (same age as baby), and I used to have an amazing milk supply. Ever since he started sleeping through the night my milk supply has dropped it seems? I can’t get more than 2oz out using my momcozy electric pump when I used to get over 9oz earlier on! It’s making me worry that my baby isn’t getting enough milk when he’s breastfeeding on me, he seems satisfied and happy after and he is putting on weight so I’m very confused how he’s getting enough. He does feed very often even at 3 months so maybe that’s why but I want him to be satisfied for longer after a feed is my pump malfunctioning or is my milk supply just low? He is also getting very bad gas recently perhaps because he is constantly feeding? And he also throws up my milk a lot recently and gets fussy on my breast way more than normal.

You are meant to replace the soft silicone parts on pumps monthly to keep them working properly Mine still feeds every 2-2.5 hours and she is bottle fed ebm so it's not because your baby isn't satisfied.

2oz isn't a bad amount! I think the main things to focus on are is he content, putting on weight, and having enough dirty and wet nappies. Lots of feeding could be for comfort, feeling poorly, or clustering for a growth spurt. It's also important to remember that breastmilk changes over time to meet the calories and needs of the baby, so quantity doesn't reflect quality. Fussiness could be because of the change in your body at around 3mo where your supply settles and is more on demand so they have to work a bit for it (often called the 3mo breast feeding crisis) and bringing it back up sounds pretty normal for the age. Hopefully this helps reassure you. ☺️

@Sophia Thank you for this, it’s definitely reassured me! I rang the NCT helpline and she said that because my period has started so early (8 weeks) EBF that my hormones have changed which can have a change in my milk production, it’s because he used to sleep through the night that I got my period back 100%. Hes now feeding 3-4 times in the night so hoping it will get my supply back up if it is lower or that this phase will pass and I do have enough milk and it’s just because he’s teething that he’s so fussy x

@Hannah Fab, I'm glad! Nice one on calling the helpline too - starting your period defintely will have something to do with it! Gotta love our hormones eh? 🤣 Also teething too... oof our little ones love to keep us on our toes!

@Sophia Yeah it’s not stressful at all😂 I will keep going and keep trying everything haha. Nothings ever simple with these babies x

I could have written this exact post myself!! Have you found out why he’s throwing up the milk afterwards?

@Taliah How strange that we’re in the exact same boat! No, I think he has a bit of reflux/gas at the moment as he’s very fussy until he pushes out his gas and poo. Maybe linked with the sick because his tummy is hurting from reflux? Honestly no clue. But he vomited up loads a few days ago it wasn’t spit up, it was full on vomit spraying out but hasn’t happened since x

Lucy Webber on instagram wrote a great post about babies at 3 months and breastfeeding. It might be worth a read? Made me feel less worried!

@Megan I cant find it on her page? x

@Megan Thank you xx I read the 4 month old one and it sounds EXACTLY like my son even though he’s not 4 months yet, it’s helped me understand A LOT thank you so much! x

Im glad it helped! 🩷
