Evening routine

Has anyone managed to establish an evening routine with their LO yet? Not really sure what to do so looking for some inspiration! My boy is 9 weeks old. He will have a bottle at 7:30/8pm but won’t go to sleep until about 10:30. I kept him awake and only allowed cat naps from 5 to make sure he was tired but this didn’t work. He’s now waking every 2hrs in the night. With BF & pumping it’s exhausting!

Is he not overtited? My 10 weeks old is awake for 1 max 1.5 hour during day then I get her for nap. She has bath around 18:30, feed at 7 and we lay her in cot right away. She falls asleep until 8 and sleeps until 2am for next feed

We’ve gone from every 2 hours to only one wake during the night! We do book/play at around 8pm, then bath, bottle and then put him down around 9:30, he then usually sleeps until 2, and has a bottle and then wakes again around 7 xxx

Keeping them awake in counter intuitive it just makes them more tired. My 9 week old usually has a bottle at around 9 and is in bed asleep between 10 and 1030 thats after an afternoon nap usually between 4 and 8pm she also had around 2 to naps during the day if she's being nice to me lol. At this age a wake window is only 30 mins to 90 mins long then they should nap after to prevent over stimulation. Whilst a routine might not be possible try doing naps when you see sleepy signs like yawning rubbing face etc x

Not a routine as such but like the others. Keeping to an age appropriate wake window from his last wake and trying to get him down by then. Thought 1.5 to 2 hours and bedtime between 7 and 8. His ‘routine’ is have a bottle and go to sleep though haha. Unless he has a bath or needs changing and then that gets thrown in. We have a three year so little one is not blessed with full undivided attention for a routine yet x

We do one last tummy time, try to engage conversation with mom and dad and get lots of cute cooing, a bottle then swaddle. Last night my baby woke up while transferring him to the bassinet so I laid him down and he fell asleep on his own thankfully. I make sure he’s in there before 9 pm. He usually wakes up at 4 am to drink milk then back to sleep. Took a few days but now he’s sleeping nearly 8 hour stretches.

He's overtired. You shouldn't he keeping a 9 week old baby awake from 5pm until 10! There's no way my 5 month old could do this, never mind 2 months lol. I'd start trying to encourage bedtime soon after his 7-8pm bottle. Yes he will probably wake up 3-4hrs later, but that's normal at this age. My baby goes to bed around 7pm, wakes again before midnight for a feed, then back down again until around 4. I then encourage her back to sleep until 6

Around 2-3 weeks ago my baby was going to sleep around 10 or 11 pm but now at 9 pm he is sleeping …bath between 7:30 -8 pm then feed/nurse …and then rocking him for sleep a little bit and he is so tired he falls sleep after 15-20 minutes and he sleeps until 4-5 am then feed then sleep again until 7 or 8 am..my baby will be 11 weeks this Friday

Thanks for all the advice! To reiterate I don’t keep him awake from 5 I let him have little sleeps between then when he’s tired. He’s just always wide awake and happy so late. He always has a good nap in the afternoon because I thought just letting him sleep when he needs and for as long as he needs was the right thing to do. I’m a first mum so honestly have no clue what I’m doing haha We do book bath bottle and bed for around half 7 to 8 pm, but he’s just not tired even if I try to get him to sleep he is wide-awake. If I managed to get him to sleep and put him down, he always wakes up.

@Meghan my baby name is also Oscar …his name is Óscar David :)

My little girl is only 7 weeks, (just scraped in on the last day of August) I started an evening routine week one, mainly for my own sanity. We start at 6pm of feed, tummy time/ play time, and book while I make and eat dinner, naked time and bath time, then a feed at 8pm with cuddles before being put down in bed at 8.45ish. She puts herself to sleep within 10 minutes of laying down without fussing. We are EBF but I pump for the 6 & 8pm feeds. She sleeps until around 4am and wakes again at 7ish. She has done for probably 4-5 weeks now I don't think we give bubs enough credit, the only times she will fuss before going to sleep are when I've changed or skipped something or if we are running late from our routine.

It's not so much of a routine but you can try not letting him sleep for more than 2 hours at once during the day. As they need their sleep in the whole of 24 hours and they don't know the difference between day and night yet, if they sleep enough during the day, they won't sleep during the night and will keep waking up. This has really worked for us

My baby girl is 11 weeks 💖 our bedtime depends on when her last nap ends, but our routine is bath/wipe down, diaper, lotion, PJs, swaddle, lullaby, lights out + white noise

@Meghan I still let my baby sleep when she needs/wants to. I rarely wake her and she sleeps 6-7 hrs a night. Even then she usually only wakes due to wind so we have a cuddle and then she goes back to sleep for another 2 hours usually. She has a bath etc around 7/7.30 then a bottle and then she sleeps. Then she wakes for a last bottle between 10-11 but hardly drinks any and then she sleeps through. She has done this since around 6 weeks and is now 12 weeks. Last night she had a bottle at 8.30 then didn’t wake for her last feed and woke up at 6am but went back to sleep after 🙈
