Thoughts on toddler reins?

My husband is dead against them, but I really want to get some for my LB. He's a runner and I'm slow and pregnant, so for me it would be a win win. Without any reins I'm hesistant to get LB out of his pushchair as he will just run away from me. Thoughts on reins?

I’m 33 weeks pregnant and slow and also have a little boy who likes to runaway 😂 and I have found reins very handy if I go out with him on my own. He has got used to them and wears them quite happily now, we have the sort of little rucksack style. We don’t usually use them when we go out as a family as my husband is quite happy to run after him all the time 😂 xxxx

I don’t see what everyone’s issue with reins is? Providing they’re used correctly, they’re actually really helpful in helping to keep your child safe…. We have used reins with my little girl when she was in a ‘running off’ phase, and it helped us keep her within a safe distance and taught her more about holding hands.

@Lauren I know right!! We also use them on our forest school walks at the nursery I work out for our children who like to escape/run off…but have had parents complain about it. We now just say that if they want their child to go out on the outings, then we need the reins to ensure we can keep them safe but also stay in ratio without an adult having to run across a field catching a child, leaving the other with the whole group, so it’s either reins or don’t go. Personally I love the idea of reins (and bought the walk assist type for my little boy for when he’s ready) but I do also think the design is quite off putting for a lot of parents, me included. The backpack version and the wrist cuffs I saw on our day out I loved because neither look like a dog lead, which is all I see when I see reins. But I do agree, they certainly have their place and a safe child is all that matters! Xx

@Lauren 100% agree, if I need them I’ll get them. We all know the toddler is not a dog, it’s safe and just makes sense! @ingog what’s the actual reason he’s dead against them??

We have them for occasional use, busy streets, rivers edge walks etc and used properly they’re amazingly useful x

I got my daughter the backpack reins as I am not a fan of the ones that are just a harness. The backpack is multipurpose and she enjoys filling her bag also. The cord is detachable too which is a bonus

Don’t see a problem with them at all. Yeah they look funny but who cares. I didn’t have any need for them with my eldest as he was as good as gold but with my other child I was actually looking at them on Amazon the other day as when he’s out of his pram he tries to run off anywhere 🫠 because of this he’s barely out of his pram when we’re out! X

Why is he against them? Mine was a late walker so isn’t running yet but I’ll definitely get some if she runs away from me!
