Fertility after period while breastfeeding

Hey everyone, my husband and I want another baby soon, but apparently only 5% of women breastfeeding get pregnant. I just got my period so y’all know what that means! Ovulation around the corner! Is there a possibility or anyone in a similar or was in the same situation as me have any advice or knowledge?

I got pregnant again 1 month after I stopped breastfeeding, I think it was holding me back

I fell pregnant on my first cycle after my periods returned (9-10months pp), while still breastfeeding. Unfortunately I miscarried, but I had another period the following month and fell pregnant again that cycle, still breastfeeding, at 12 months pp! Breastfed comfortably throughout the pregnancy and now breastfeed both of them!

I haven’t heard that figure before, could that include those who haven’t got their cycle back yet? I got pregnant whilst breastfeeding on our first try (I was tracking ovulation). My son was over two years at the time but I was still breastfeeding him regularly day and night. My period didn’t return until 21 months and I got pregnant in my 5th cycle after they returned.

Ovulation can occur without a period, which is why doctors tell you that breast feeding is *not* a form of birth control. I’ve had a few friends who got pregnant accidentally while breast feeding because they didn’t think they needed protection. I don’t have personal experience, but it’s definitely possible to get pregnant whilst breast feeding and without any sign of a period.
