How to get newborn to sleep

I’m seeing some people post about how they no longer need to wake their baby up for feeds in the night as they’re now over their birth weight. My question is, how are you even getting to that point? I can’t even get my baby to sleep during the night, if she does fall asleep it’ll be on me and obv I try to move her to the moses basket but she just screams. I pick her up, she falls asleep on me again, I put her in the basket, she screams. This has been going on every night, no lie from 10pm-7am every night, this same cycle. Last time I got any sleep at night was pre-pregnancy, i’m just relying on short 2 hour naps during the day now. Why won’t my baby sleep? they must be exhausted too surely

We had to buy a sleep safe nest and co sleep - it was the only way to get any sleep at night as he wouldn’t go down in his cot

I co sleep for this reason. Life saver x

Do you swaddle baby? That may help if not. We use the love to dream swaddle, I got some second hand off vinted. It's normal for baby girl to want to be on you, its a big old scary world out here! But you also need sleep, good luck xx

@Sam yesh i have the love 2 dream swaddles :’(

Well that's good you have them! It's a difficult balance to being able to put them down. I put my son down about 10 minutes after he has finished feeding. Sometimes I put him down in his moses basket in the day time and he wakes up instantly! It's hard work. Good luck, I hope you get some rest xx

Here are some things that may help her to settle. White noise, swaddle, wait until they are asleep then transfer them. Wait until they are in a deep sleep before transferring which can take up to about 25 minutes. You'll need to experiment to see how long it takes for them. Sleep with their crib sheet a night so it smells of you. Warm their crib with a hot water bottle before putting them in... When you are transferring them put them down feet first, then bum, then head last very slowly. Then I put my hands on top of my lo for a few moments until he settles. Hope something helps.

this is us, you are not alone. we are 3 weeks in and won’t sleep unless with us. a baby carrier has been great for during the day x
