Car seat and jackets

Has anyone seen or used these car seat jackets? It opens in the middle by a zipper like a jacket so that they can be buckled but still have that jacket on. I hope that made sense. But does anyone use one? My mother in law tried to by my son something like that but I said nope.

I would and will forever say no to any coat or jacket in the car seat blankets only

@Bella what about like a crew neck well I guess that would be a long sleeve anyways. I’m a ftm and getting so confused on how to dress my son up with winter coming and the car seat

@Bella ftm🙋🏻‍♀️ what’s wrong with jackets in a car seat? my grandma just bought my daughter one

I'd just keep a blanket in the car to place over him, personally.

@Madyson @Paige So jackets/coats don’t allow the straps to fully tighten down. If you where to put them in with one on, tighten it down properly, and then unbuckle without adjusting take the coat off and rebuild them it it will be very loose. In the event of a car accident the fluff of the coat with compress and allow the child to get thrown around or potentially come out of the seat if loose enough. It’s best to not use anything in your car seat that didn’t come with your seat as it’s not crash tested. This includes but is not limited to coats, covers, sets, strap covers, the pillow things to keep head upright etc. the best thing you can do is have a coat on them on the way to the car, take coat off, load baby, put coat over them to keep them warm, and when you take baby out just put them back in coat. I skip it and just carry them out in a blanket and put the blanket around him once properly strapped in. ❤️

Sorry for the long paragraphs, I’m very much an I want to know why something can’t be done. So I’ve done a lot of research and asked a million questions at my local health department. I will always try to give other mamas the same answers I had to search to find ❤️

@Natalie This also isn’t safe, just so you’re aware. 1 the fluff will compress leaving baby vulnerable to ejection, and getting heavily jostled around. 2 that flap over top in a car can easily make baby overheat especially with your heat on. If under 6 months a baby cannot regulate their own temperature. A cold baby cries a hot baby died. Better safe than sorry. A blanket would work the same, but be much safer in the event of a car accident, as well as if baby gets hot can be easily removed either by parent or baby itself depending on age…

@Natalie I just forgot I bought one of those but mine only covers the top and easily comes off and easy to put back on and has zippers.

@Natalie this was made for being outside it is supposed to come off when you get in the car

Nothing like those blankets should be added to the car seat, and indoor clothes only on the child when they are in the car. You can buckle them in and then put a blanket over the top or you could buckle them in and put a coat on over them backwards

Nothing should ever be added to a car seat. A blanket placed over them is enough.
