Colostrum harvesting

I’m 37+5 and tonight I started colostrum harvesting, I did try a few days ago just by hand expressing but I really struggled so tonight I decided to use a manual breast pump.. I managed to get 3 syringes. I’m just wondering if this looks right? As I see some peoples looks a yellow colour so I’m confused as to weather this is right… also, do I just put them in a freezer bag/box until needed? And do I have to date each one in separate bags or can I just add other syringes to the same bag?

Amazing! Yeah it looks exactly how it should, mine looks very similar. Pop them all in a ziplock bag in the freezer together with date, time and name on it xx

@Georgie ahh great thank you! Xx

Yup mines the same! Manual pump is so much better , hand expressing I hardly get anything too , I pop the ones I’ve expressed in the same bag and just date it as it’s All from the same bottle

What pump do you use if you don’t mind sharing? This is brilliant!

I’m interested in what pump you are using too! Xx

@Scarlet I used the Tommee tippee made for me manual breast pump, I wasn’t really getting anything at first but after a couple of minutes on each side I seen some in the bottle, then I just went again on each side for about 3 minutes each

@Laura it is the Tommee tippee made for me manual breast pump xx

I was told not to use a breast pump for this? Mine is clear with bits of yellow running through it when I squeeze with my hand but haven’t tried to collect yet as I’m only 35 weeks x

@Kati I was told not to use one till past 37 weeks, and more advised to hand express but I found it near impossible to collect and I’m due for my induction next week so I wanted to make sure I had a few at least x

Yeah same , it’s safe to do so from 37 weeks , as your classed as full term technically, so if it does set off labour it wouldn’t be an issue my midwife said it’s fine to use manual from 36 onwards as the likelihood it kickstarts into labour is low so I’d double check with your mw
