Breastfeeding a newborn

Does anyone know how to help? We're trying to breastfeed our newborn and I had just fed her and about 5 minute later she was showing signs of wanting to feed again, but when offered she didn't want to latch on or engage. I'm worried she's either not getting enough or there's something else wants and I can't figure out what it is! Can anyone help, or has someone dealt with something similar?

Could be cluster feeding. They do have behaviours that seem like they don't want to latch to try and stimulate your milk flow. Just be patient and keep her there, she may relatch.

How many weeks is she

@Fsandra she's only 2 days old, but she's been pretty good latching up until now

I’m literally having the same thing right at this moment. She was inly born yesterday so know she only has a tiny tummy too x

Oh night 2 is notoriously hard. Just keep offering to latch. It's going to be a long one but it's just the 2nd night syndrome

I am only 2 weeks in with my lil boy I don’t know much myself I am learning everything too but whn my lil boy was going through tht wht I was told he was cluster feeding coz there hasn’t bn milk yet. And whn he was cluster feeding he was trying to stimulate the milk to start flowing don’t worry wht she is getting is fine and it’s amazing how these babies know wht to do . so yes be patient coz w me the moment the milk started flowing the latching was normal and the feeding too

They say breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world and in some ways it is, but it needs to be learnt. Mums need to learn to feed as do their babies. A lot of it is instinct of course but with practice it becomes easier, baby feeds more efficiently with time (therefore can go longer stretches) and it becomes easier so they don’t get tired feeding and come away before they’re full. 2 days is so early into your journey. I’d just latch baby on as much as they seem to want to feed. It’s also strategic (cluster feeding) as they try to boost your supply - the more they latch the more your body will produce. All this sounds normal to me. My only advice is try not to worry, and feed baby as often as she seems to want to be fed 💕 Congratulations!

@Becca congratulations, I hope you had a smooth delivery ☺️. Sounds like we're in the same boat. x

i’m not a pro but just as you asked if anyone dealt with something similar, I dealt with this a few nights ago (my baby is now 5 days old) - night 2 is a hard one like a few people above have said. baby starts cluster feeding where they help bring your milk in. i’m sure everyone’s experience will be different but just from my own, just keep offering the boobs (i’d keep switching) and let her latch on every time she chooses too, this may be literally throughout the whole night by the way. i didn’t sleep at all that night. it’s going to be a long one through the night so get yourself comfy and have plenty of snacks and water with you! she’ll be getting enough from your colostrum in your boobs so don’t worry about that. best of luck girly and congrats on your daughter! xx
