Health and safety issue

Girls please I need your help. I just moved a month ago from nyc to upstate and I found out that the apartment is full of rats and roaches everywhere literally everywhere. In two days we caught 5 rats. Ans yes we just found out that because the whole last month we were working from 11 am to 11 pm so we eat outside and go home to sleep only. I have a 10 month old and he wants to crawl all the time and keeps crying because I’m not letting him and also he got some allergies in his eyes and i’m not sure if that because of the rats fur. Can anyone tell me what a legal action I can do. We have a one year lease and Ofcourse i can’t live a one year in this disgusting apartment. Please if you know what I can do tell me because we contacted the office and the fid nothing about it. I just want to leave this place. It is unsafe for my baby to be in such a disgusting apartment. He can’t enjoy his life because i’m not letting him crawl or walk on the floor.

I would immediately notify your landlord in writing about the specific problems you are experiencing, including detailed descriptions and photos, and give them a reasonable time to address the issues; if they fail to do so, you can then consider contacting your local housing authority or health department to file a complaint and potentially seek legal action to break your lease or withhold rent.

I know you are upstate. Is there the equivalent of 311(?) you need to get authorized involved because you have a minor. Gather all the evidence and maybe bring baby to ER and also ask there what you can do? There is an office of Public Advocacy maybe they can help. I’d go to the hospital because you don’t know what he got infected with (I pray not but you want to check). I am very sorry you are going through this! I pray you and your family be done with this soon ❤️

I’m so sorry you’re going through this I agree with the above comments. Notifying the landlord immediately and taking photos as well as taking him to the ER

yes theres 311 in NY. Call asap. multiple times. they have a portal so you can keep record of everything. they even update you on when they spoke to landlord etc. yes take baby to doc. take more pics of baby. and droppings, videos of rats and roaches and consition of apartment
