SLEEP!!!

AHHHH. My 16mo has always been a good sleeper. Until recently! He’s taking upwards of half an hour to an hour to go to sleep. Chatting, playing, jumping in his cot. I’ve tried EVERYTHING. He’s on one nap, usually goes to sleep within 15 mins for his nap. Follow wake windows, even extended his last wake window to 5 hours before bed… he’s clearly tired, yawning and rubbing his eyes etc, the perfect tired so he SHOULD go straight to sleep. But he fights it so much he ends up not sleeping until gone 8pm, therefore over tired and waking early the next day. It’s a vicious cycle and I’m tired of having a grumpy toddler 😩 This has been going on for about a month now! He’s had blips in regressions but this is the longest ever. Driving me up the wall 🫣

This was us a few weeks ago. I know it’s not what you want to hear but we just had to ride it out angle after 2-3 weeks back to normal… although still she still wakes up at 5:30/6 but goes down so easy as before. I found that just holding her and humming lullabies helped. Only took 10 mins rather than an hour. Sometimes all they want/need is to have mummy close by. I just have to remind myself that it’s all about ‘phases’ and it’ll pass

And* not angle

@kharys thank you! He’s not interested in having me in there, he literally laughs at me if I go in and it wakes him up more 🤣. He’s not upset or anything, just playing and being silly- blowing raspberries etc. no issue really except he’s clearly tired and just making himself overtired 🙃 He’s just gone to sleep now after being in bed for an hour. Probably be up at 6am ish and absolutely shattered. Then it’s a battle to keep him going until nap time 😅

Sounds like he needs more sleep pressure. Try putting him to bed at 8 if that’s when he falls asleep. There’s no evidence that overtiredness causes early wakes, it’s usually under tiredness and just that they’ve simply had enough sleep

@Hollie i thought that too. He has always tended to wake early when overtired going to bed though (that’s just a given with him we’ve noticed!) Put him to bed earlier tonight, and he’s already asleep. Barely made a peep, didn’t even stand up! So I think he just can’t last longer than 4.5 hours in the afternoon yet. He seems to last a bit longer in the mornings now though, tends to be 5.5-6 hrs in before his nap!
