Low Papp-a

The hospital have contacted me to say it’s been detected that I’ve got low papp-a and that it puts myself and baby at higher risk of things. Has anyone heard of this or experienced it before?

I experienced this today & I was told that there is a high chance of Downs Syndrome (1 : 106). Trying not to worry too much, it's still a low chance. They managed to fit me in for another blood test today (NIPT) to get a more accurate result. This should come back in a few days. They also gave me Aspirin for my Low Papp A. I've been advised to take this up until 36 ish weeks. Do a bit of extra reading on this, but it seems to be the best option as there's nothing else we can do to change the low level. Try not to worry x

@Meesh ah thank you for your reply! They’ve said I’m still low risk for the conditions but still at risk of the risk factors that come with low papp-a. They haven’t offered me any further flood tests but have said a doctor will be in contact with me over the next few days in regards to the aspirin prescription and further information. Wishing you all the best🤍

That's great you're low risk for the conditions! One less thing to worry about. All will be well in regards to the low papp a! Take care 🙂 x

I had low papp a with my little girl! She came out absolutely fine, not affected by it at all. (After I panicked the whole time!!) I think they basically have to warn you of every outcome but usually the baby isn’t affected! Hope everything is all good 🥰

@Faye that’s reassuring to hear! I’m glad all went well for you, did you reach full term? Xx

Yeah it was a huge worry for me but when she came out I asked if my placenta looked normal and they said yes! So it is really weird! I had extra growth scans and stuff and she was a tiny bit on the small side but apart from that absolutely fine! I was induced at 40 weeks which again all went really well x

Same situation for me. Low risk everything just low PAPP-A. On 150mg aspirin per day although some places still do 75mg I think. I know a few friends who had the same and all their babies were fine, term healthy weight babies. Won’t hurt to have a few extra scans as well.

Hey i was Low Papp A with my first (he’s one now). i was on aspirin from 12 weeks and had extra growth scans. They told me i was high risk and i was consultant led. During growth scans they said baby was small, he was under the ten percentile so i had baby monitoring every two days and a planned C section at 37 weeks! Baby was born 5pounds 13. He’s doing great no problems. :)

@Catherine she said they would start me on 150mg but I’m worried because I had some bleeding at the start but I suppose I can mention this to the doctor who’s prescribing it to me. Thank you for the reassurance, it’s nice to hear from people who are going through the same x

@Victoria that’s brilliant news, I’m so glad he’s doing well. How did you find the planned section? Xx

I was low Papp-A with my first baby, low risk everything else. I had to take aspirin daily and had extra growth scans. We had no problems 🙂

I have this with this baby! I had a similar situation with my previous pregnancy but due to not having the screening tests last time I’m not sure if it was low Papp-a But he ended up being a healthy weight even after measuring small!
