Bedtimes…

How do you feel about bedtimes? I have 2 kids and they have both got a strict bedtime, mainly cos I want the peace and quiet after being with them all day/weekend. I think it’s important kids get a proper nights sleep. It isn’t always straight forward and causes stress and upset some nights I will admit. My friend however lets her LO stay up til he’s tired as it’s a battle at bedtime and she would rather let him stay up to spend extra time with him.. this made me question things like am I awful for not wanting to spend any more time with my child than necessary? I honestly look forward to their bedtime and always have, hopefully that doesn’t make me a bad parent 🙈 What’s your opinions on bedtimes?

Depends on the kid, my eldest bed time was ridiculous (autism, ADHD) and it just wasn't worth the battle so I just let him go till he dropped. His natural sleep pattern was 2am till 10am, it still is at 15. But my youngest loves bed time and takes himself up at 7!

@Mel s oh my days. 2am til 10am. How did you manage that? Some nights I’m ready for bed at 8pm! X

No you're not awful! I love bedtime and I'll tell the kids I can't wait for them to go to bed 😂😂 I'm fortunate that I don't have a fight from any of them, they all love sleep as much as I do 😌

Nope, I'm the same. I need a couple hours to myself in the evenings so bedtime is around 7 / 8 ish every day! Although I now have a newborn so don't have my evenings anymore, but will have a routine with him too! X

That was on a good night too, I generally got 4 hours sleep a night for the first 9 years. And cos we Co slept the first 9 years I literally never had a second without him. You do what you gotta do when you've got kids with additional needs!

If the strict bedtime workes for you, why would you change?! I had a strict bedtime with mine but she didn't 🤣 I used to put her to bed at 7-8 and just staying in bed with her till 10pm when she decided is tired and I used to stress myself for nothing, now I understand I should have been spending those hours doing other things with her not singing on repeat 🤣 after dropping her nap, she is asleep by 7.30pm and I'm having a well deserved break 😅. So, every child is different, what is working for one, doesn't necessarily works for another. Enjoy your evenings and let them sleep, they need the sleep.
