Bad Napper

Hey all. My 8.5 month old has been sleeping consistently through the night since about 5ish months old (when we did TCB sleep training). I’m so grateful that she sleeps well overnight! However her naps during the day are abysmal. We did TCB nap training about two weeks before she started daycare at six months and she was doing well! But between adjusting to daycare and the daycare itself, her nap training went out the window. She now has no predictable nap schedule. And rarely sleeps longer than 30-45 minutes. Sometimes she’ll take one 25 min nap on the way to daycare and one hour long nap at daycare and that’s it for the day. Meaning she’s way overtired and miserable on the hour-long ride home and has to go straight to bed when we arrive. It’s brutal. But there’s only so much we can control with her at daycare. This new daycare she’s at is great and they are very accommodating, but they’re having a hard time getting her to go down for a second nap while she’s there (She’s a super active, curious, and playful girl! Way ahead of schedule on all her milestones). And when she’s home on the weekends, she typically only naps about 20 minutes in her crib then wakes up and will nap another 40 min to 2hours in a contact nap because we want our baby to get rest! We can’t nap train in two days so it’s just this vicious cycle.. Again, super grateful that we have great night sleep, but I am concerned she’s not getting enough sleep overall (typically a total of 12.5 hours over 24 hours). Any ideas?

Short naps usually mean she’s not tired enough. I think decide what time may work best for the daycare to put her down in relation to bedtime. My daughter was put on a separate nap schedule at daycare until she was adjusted to their schedule eventually. She also may be ready to drop a nap. My son is 9 months old and he’s about to drop the 3rd nap. Also give yourself grace! This is all temporary while she adjusts so sending you solidarity! It’s all hard lol

Thank you, @Jan 💟

Oh man, I'm sorry mama I don't have great advice as my twins cut themselves down to 1 long nap at only 4m old so the multiple naps makes no sense to me, but my kids wouldn't be able to nap well at a daycare either, they also need to lay down with me in my bed with a sound machine and a fan to be able to get the full 2-3 hour nap in. So i can't even imagine! My thoughts are with you mama 🫶🏻

My daughter is the same but she stays home with me. She just wants to play with big brother all the time. She's down to 2-1 hour naps if that and usually I have to put her to bed around 530p-6p or she's a wreck.

@Kylee @Shay sounds like everyone’s got something when it comes to sleep 🥴

Ohhh yeah the first year is full of hardships, regressions, and tears from everyone involved lmfao, just manifests itself in different ways for all of us 🥴

My almost two year old still has not gotten the hang of a nap schedule. He also does not sleep all night. Everything I have read makes me think that sleep problems are actually the norm when they are little, which is not what I was hoping for. What is tcb sleep training? I used to be a daycare provider and several of the parents ended up with littles that needed more contact napping when they were at home. They miss us when we are gone, and if they sleep on us we cannot get away.
