Cot confusion

Hi all, Sorry this is probably really stupid but I've got myself in a right flap with it. When we went looking for nursery furniture we were told that no-one really makes drop down side cots now due to safety concerns. So we bought one without, but my mum has sent me a link to some with the feature. My husband thinks we should just stick with the set we've ordered. Buy being very short I'm worried I won't be able to reach to lift him in when he's at the lowest setting (and is heavier). Does anyone have experience....am I flapping or should I try and find a drop side, thanks

I’ve read that drop side ones aren’t recommended anymore, I’m not sure why but the lullaby trust recommends cots with fixed sides. So I’m going to follow that

The lullaby trust doesn’t recommend them as the mechanism could be unsafe. That said, they’re not banned in the Uk and if it is manufactured in the UK then there are very stringent safety measures that have to be adhered to so you’re probably best checking manufacturer details if you do want to swap. Alternatively you could get a little step or poof to make it easier once the cot is at its lowest setting x

I never knew this no longer was recommended- i thought all cots had drop sides! Every day is a school day 🤣 must be a nightmare trying to reach over and pick up baby surely!

Hiya, this is my 2nd baby and for my first I thought exactly the same, we ended up going for a fixed sides cot and tbh it hasn't been a problem. Most of them have the option that the mattress is at different heights so before they can pull themselves up you are lifting them from no height at all and then usually once they are at the lowest setting they can actually pull themselves up so it's not so much of a heave if that makes sense. I have a bad back and I haven't had any issues with the cot we got xx

Thank you all. I think I'll stick with the fixed side one we ordered, and look at getting myself a little step or something 🤣 I know guidance changes all the time but this one just blew my mind a bit!

We had the same worries with my first and now she's 19m and I manage fine. I'm only 5'2" and can still get her into her cot asleep with the big pregnancy bump so I'm sure you'll be fine.
