Newborn naps

So I have a 9 week old baby and she has never settled herself to have a nap. She always has to be patted/rocked to sleep and then I try to transfer her to her Moses basket for the nap. I’m just wondering when I should start putting her down awake in her basket and seeing if she will settle? Or if I should have done this already…. (She also 9/10 times wakes up when I try put her down) Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Following as my LO won’t settle either and will cry when put down x

You really shouldn’t be concerned at this stage, 9 weeks is very young and their sleep completely changes at 4 months anyway. What you are describing is absolutely normal. From 6 months you can start making changes but a newborn is simply not capable of learning how to sleep, if they need to be held, they need to be held. My son didn’t start napping well in a cot until 12 months!

My bubs is 10 weeks and contact sleeps during the day. If I need to pop her down for whatever reason she's happy to lay on our bed. During the night she settles herself to sleep in her bed with white noise and pitch black room. Won't wake up for a feed until about 4/5hrs later x

Yeah that’s very young they need help to settle until at least 6 months I’d say, my LB is 6 months in 3 weeks and he likes to lay down with his dummy and muslin touching his face but I have to be sat with him incase his dummy falls out and I will stroke his face or have my hand on his chest until I know he’s fully asleep, most of my friends little ones are around the same age and all day they won’t settle on their own x

I followed the contented little baby book by Gina ford. It helped me get my daughter into a perfect routine for sleeping. She still sleeps amazing now and she is 4
