Please help

My baby has woken up like clock work and every morning at around 5am. He cries and sounds in pain and it's hard to settle him. I've heard somewhere that some babies wake up around this time with pain in stomach. He doesn't seem to poo during the night so maybe that's why... anyone else???

The condition you’re describing is likely infant dyschezia, where babies struggle to pass stool due to immature digestive muscles. It’s common and usually gets better as they grow. For relief, you can use Babies Magic Tea Gripe Water with every feed. This helps especially at night, so you can align your baby’s sleep with yours by easing the discomfort before bed.

maybe needs to burp?

Could also be wind. Have you tried bicycle legs and tummy massages to get the air in his belly moving?

My daughter does this, although she doesn’t cry so much. It’s trapped wind from the night feeds. I do tummy massage and bicycle legs and she resettles after. Sometimes it can take a while.

I did a post like this on September babies yesterday as my 6 week old religiously wakes at 5.30am every day grunting and kicking legs (I’m assuming trying to pass wind) but will drop back off to sleep intermittently for a minute here and there but then it continues for a couple of hours or until I get him up but he doesn’t actually cry just appears uncomfortable! But a lot of people commented on my post saying their babies are the same and at the same time too!

@Ellie so comforting to see it's common. Hopefully it stops soon as breaks my heart when he does this as sounds like he's in so much pain. X
