How did you wean your baby/toddler?

My son is about to be 19mo next month, and I’m super ready to wean him off of my breasts. Nothing seems to be sticking and working. What is your advice or methods that you used?

Check out Facebook groups for breast feeding moms or local moms groups and see if they have any resources. I didn’t breast feed long enough for it to warrant any transition so I don’t have any advice but I have heard a lot of great things when this Q was asked in those kinds of forums 😊

I did cold turkey kinda . Just weaned him at 17m. I stopped breastfeeding completely during the day and offered real food and milk in a bottle or cup. He declined the milk completely and barely ate until night time . I would breastfeed him to put him to bed and then I’d allow him one bf during the night but if he tried to feed again at night I offered water and continued putting him to bed. The first 4 days was very hard, he cried most of the day but I had to stay strong and not give in. I gave him a bath each night and fed him (real food) right before bed to try to help stay asleep longer. The rest of the week was hard but a little bit better. He stopped asking during the day but still cried a bit at night but not as long. I did have one advantage- I took a quick gig working at my local fair so I was gone between 4pm-12am so I didn’t have to do the night routine . That was for 5 days

By the second week, he was down to only one breastfeed around 2-3 AM & he didn’t cry if I’d refuse again. No feeds during the day. He would just drink water(out of the regular water bottle) and go back to sleep . That was officially his last week

I wasted a lot of real food trying to offer him many varieties to make up for no breast milk. He mainly ate string cheese, fruits and chips 😂 sometimes cereal and sometimes tater tots

My son showed signs of self weaning but i stopped the morning wake up feed and served food instead and a cup. For naps, I cold turkey in a way and played music and cuddled him to sleep. Bedtime routine my husband took over because he would always want to nurse before bedtime Took about 2 whole weeks

Just following cause I am in the same situation. I only breastfeed in the evenings but about ready to stop. Can't imagine anyone else putting him to sleep though because he just cries and cries. But I guess we will have to push it once I definitely make a decision to stop.

I just quit cold Turkey I gave my daughter a bottle or a sippy cup and kept non revealing shirts on or ones that can be pulled down easily and she has been off of my breast for 5 months now

Thanks Mamas! I’m having a hard time, sounds like I need to be really firm in this thing!

we did cold turkey off the bottle, not how breast translates
