If you drive to the hospital, then yes. Legally your baby will need to travel in the car seat if that’s how you intend to leave the hospital. My midwife checked baby was correctly secured in his car seat before I was allowed to leave the hospital. We left the car seat in the car until we left though.

Yes you need a car seat but if you don’t drive a suitable pram

A lot of hospitals you can’t leave with baby unless you have a car seat with you! I believe this is regardless of whether you drive or not 😅

The Midwives will check that baby is properly secured in a car seat before they let you leave the ward. I have known of some instances where the Midwives will come and check the seat to be fitted correctly to your car. Obviously, you don't need one if you're not driving. Call your hospital to check if you're not sure x

At ninewells they didn’t even check. They told us we were free to leave, no one even said bye we just walked out the door 🤣

@Vicky I was the same at QEUH… we were told we could go and never saw anyone after that 😂 we were so paranoid he wasn’t in the car seat properly we were googling it in the ward 🤦🏽‍♀️

I was at the RAH and the midwife, as well as checking if we had the car seat, also helped us position my LG correctly.

We have an ISO fix and so we took bubba out to car in the pram, that was in brum tho not sure about scotland

I’m in Aberdeen and they didn’t care what we took her home in; they didn’t care about much tbh x

Mine never bothered to check either, we were told we could leave and didn’t see anyone after that

Didn’t even check at RAH in Paisley x

I was in crosshouse and they did tell me I would have to bring a car seat as he had to be secured in one before we left the hospital x

@Eilidh you can leave 😂 you’re not a prisoner and they can’t detain you! If you’re driving then yes common sense and legally. If you don’t drive and you’re not going home by car then no, you don’t need one. I borrowed mine for the Uber drive home from a friend but saying that no one checked. They just said goodbye and let us out the ward 😂
