Ultrasound baby weight

Hey guys! I had an ultrasound apt today and doctor said my baby is already 7.5 pounds, I still have four weeks left to go. I’m nervous, I’ve had a 9.1 pound baby before and it was a complicated labor. My sister in law goes to the same ultrasound tech who said her baby was 6 pounds and she gave birth three days later to a five pound baby. I guess I’m just looking for anyone who has experienced the ultrasound being wrong and having a smaller or bigger baby than they said you would. I’m praying for an easy labor! 🙏

Ultrasound is not an exact science with weight of the fetus. In earlier weeks/months there is a reliable size and weight measurement, but come the 3rd trimester the baby can be longer or shorter etc. the ultrasound will give a close guesstimate for the weight but not guaranteed to be with in tiny increments. I’m not sure what the ‘allowed’ over/under weight

My 35w4d ultra sound said he was 7lbs 2 oz he was born 2 weeks later at 37w3d only weighing 7lbs 5oz

I never believe the ultrasound weights they said with my 2nd child he was 7pounds like two hours before birth but when I had him a couple hours later he was 9 pounds 13 ounces sooooo wtf and I pushed him out and I’m super small framed but our bodies are amazing

I’m 37 wks n 5 days my baby is 7lb and 9 ounces my first child was born premature only 3 pounds so this is a whole new thing I will be having a c section 11/1 tho

@Amber my OB said if my baby is projecting closer to 10 lbs then she’s going to recommend a C-section which I do NOT want if I don’t absolutely have to! 😭

@Sammy you can deny and I tell everyone I know if the doctors actually knew how big my son was they would have gave me a C-section because it was crazy lol but no I pushed him out I feel like the baby I’m currently pregnant with is going to big I can just feel it

With my first, they said he was going to be 8 or 9 pounds based on the ultrasound. I had him at 39 weeks 4 days and he was 6 lbs 10 oz lol. They aren’t exact!

@Andria did they also tell you that the baby had no room left or just that it would be 8 or 9 pounds. Crazy they could be that off!

They did not say anything about not having any room left!

@Andria and anyone else that has had ultrasounds be "off", were they consistently off throughout pregnancy or just toward the end? I'm currently in the boat where they are saying baby boy will be big, but have been getting ultrasounds monthly since second trimester due to my age. They have been consistently saying he is big. So, I'm wondering if this possibly makes it more accurate or not?

@Victoria they were saying it from close to the end of the 2nd trimester till the end for me! I had to get growth scans to keep track. They wanted to induce me if he didn’t come by my due date 5/17/22 but he came 5/14/22 and was so much smaller lol. Deff not the case for all ultrasounds, just my experience!

@Andria thanks for the response. Yeah, I keep wondering if he is really going to be as big as they say.

@Victoria me too! 😫 my doctor said they are not always that accurate so it’s annoying not knowing and being scared.

I agree it's nerve racking with having to feel prepared for whatever possibility presents itself.
