Constipation advice

Hey all, looking for some advice / past experiences. My LO Is 13 days old and has been straining so much and not pooing apart from an explosive poo 24hrs ago which made him no better. He goes bright red in the face and squeals so he is obviously in a lot of discomfort. We took him to an out of hours drs appointment last night and the dr said it could be his milk, and he does look slightly constipated so we have now changed his milk from aptimal from sma to see how he goes. He also has a sore right around his bum hole from straining so much 😭 the dr lathered sudocream on him saying this is how it should be, when I say lathered his whole bum was white, yet the midwife when we saw her said only put a thin layer on? So I’m just so confused! Does anyone have any advice for releasing his pain? I’ve tried bicycle legs and tummy massage and nothing seems to be working. Also, any advice on barrier cream? I feel like such a rubbish FTM I hate seeing him in Distress and not knowing what to do for the best 😭😭 Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance 💙

Sma made my son constipated can they prescribe laxatives

first off your not a rubbage first time mom so get that out of your head! My baby went through this too it was her formula so we lessened it and she’s better now and going a couple times a day. You can use the Fredamom wind tool they have to help relieve gas

We didn't get on with sudocream, and have moved on to bepanthen which is much better for our LO. I know it's horrid to see them in pain, but you're doing everything you can, which makes you an amazing mum x

My little one had this around the same time and the paediatrician recommended that we switch to Cow and gate comfort milk which is for colic and constipation. This worked for him and we did a lot of baby massage too for his wind which helped. All babies are different but it might be worth asking the doctor about comfort milk if this new change in milk doesn’t work after a few weeks.

I got laxatives that go to bottom for my little one , she did not pooped buy her self for 4 months ,it's when I started solids. It was horrible to watch your baby so uncomfortable. We are also drinking Aptimil..

My little girls struggled to begin with too. We put a drop of infacol in her milk and it sorted her out within 2 days x

Formula made my first daughter very very constipated I mean she wasn’t doing explosive poops she was doing the exact opposite- hard lil nuggets, I could plop them right into the toilet and nothings left behind on the diaper that’s how constipated she was. I BF until 6w then I got the chicken pox which Dr advised me (I shouldn’t have listened to him- young and dumb and naive thinking Dr was right) to stop my BF. So I did. And I changed her to formula. And she got constipated for like a month. I tried 2 brands. Then I got fed up and sourced some donor milk until she was 1 and that also eased my guilt of stopping Bf. Never constipated again. Which was why I tried so hard to BF babies 2+3 I had a really bad experience w formula. You can try laxatives or go the route I did and give donor milk which is very gentle on their tummies and much more easily digestible
