What to do after testing positive?

Hi all I tested positive two days ago, so I’m very newly pregnant. Now I’m starting to get my head around it feeling real, I realised I have no idea what I am meant to do next and how I go about getting a scan etc! I have set up a doctors appointment next week but is there anything else I should be doing? I live in London, UK. Thanks for any advice ☺️

Your doctors should be able to guide you. Where I live, you register with the hospital you plan on giving birth at directly x

Your dr will set up a scan and bloodwork for you. Start taking prenatal, vitamin d, calcium and dha. Once your bloodwork is back your dr will tell you what to do. If you end up having to take iron, space the calcium and iron pills apart approx 2hr

It depends what country you’re in! Here in the UK I rang my GP surgery and registered my pregnancy so that I got an initial midwife appointment booked for around 8 weeks. Then you basically do nothing until you’ve seen the midwife 😂 although because I was under a consultant at the time, it was different for me and I had an early viability scan at 6+6. This isn’t the norm in the UK though

Congratulations! If you’re in the UK you usually self refer to the hospital you’d like to give birth at (you can change it) you’ll find a link on their website. If you call the GP they’ll just tell you that and tell you start taking folic acid & vitamin d if you aren’t already. You’ll get a call from the maternity team and they’ll book you your first appointment around 8-10 weeks, first scan around 12 weeks.

Weirdly the GP is not interested. But you can go online and within the NHS you notify the midwives unit who will give you an 8 week appointment initially

Thank you so much everyone, super helpful ☺️. Also really good to know you can change hospital as now the next step is working out what the hell hospital I want to go to! Are there any websites where you can get reliable reviews on the maternity wards?!

It’s so hard isn’t it ! I asked on local groups and tried to find out as much via google, ultimately it’s pretty impossible because there will be people with amazing experiences and awful, so in the end I just chose the most local one to me 🤷‍♀️ I wanted a home birth so it wasn’t as major, looking at their birth centres is a good start
