Can’t get baby down at night

It’s only day 3 so super early but I just can’t get my baby down at night for any period of time at all. He’s a small baby so only doing short feeds but he will fall asleep on the boob. He will settle on me but as soon as I put him in his next to me he will want feeding again. I just want a little bit of sleep 😢 are others going through it? Any tips? I didn’t want to co sleep but can’t survive on such little rest

We had the same thing when he was cluster feeding day 2 & 3. After that he fed longer and slept more in between. The only way I survived and didn’t give up breast feeding was my partner taking him for a couple of hours at a time so I could have some sleep. After that period we’ve been swaddling and using womb sounds, otherwise he won’t settle without being held. It does get better soon.

@Charlie thank you. my husband has been taking shifts but he doesn’t stay settled for that long so it’s hard for me to get a decent stint of sleep!

It sounds like cluster feeding, I had this on nights 1&2 and it does get better, when my milk came in for us. My lo always falls asleep on the boob too, but at this stage they often do before they've actually finished so they are still hungry. I feed 1 side, then do nappy if asleep to wake him up, then feed other side to try and get more milk in him. Aside from cluster feeding we also swaddle and use white noise.

@Tanya thanks, my milk came in today so I’m hoping things improve. He will happily sleep on the bed after a side feed laying down. But if I move him 2 feet into the next to me, he wakes and cries. I have white noise on. Have ordered a love to dream swaddle so hoping that makes a difference!

We had the exact same thing last night. It was super overwhelming. Today, we have used a white noise machine today and a love to dream swaddle. My milk has come in she is feeding longer and going down so much better. I’m also expressing a bottle for the night from my husband to do and we’ve taken shifts tonight to both get at least 4 hours rest. We both took 3 hours nap during the day too which mentally took the pressure off the night and tonight is just 100 times better than last night! I’m up now for a quick feed but she’s been so much more settled. Wishing you lots of luck for a more restful night xx

We introduced a dummy on night 3 for when my husband was on shift and that made a huge difference. When my milk came in on day 4 he suddenly went longer between feeds as well. It gets easier ❤️

@Alexandra thank you that’s just the reassurance I needed! Unfortunately no chance of daytime naps as we have a toddler too! But hoping the nights start to improve soon. Thanks again x

@Abi thank you 🥰

i could have wrote this myself! glad things are getting better for you all! keep trotting along girlies, we’ve got this xxx

Were in day 11 of this now, I think I'm a bit delerious from lack of sleep lol 🥴😴
