First scan?

So I found out a week ago I’m pregnant. If I worked it out correctly, I’m over 4 weeks nearly 5. I have health conditions where I’m under a gynae and he said my chances of getting pregnant were low… (I had a miscarriage in 2021) and this pregnancy was unexpected due to what he said. I have filled out a form through my GP website to get registered with a midwife… anyone know how long it’ll be before they get in touch with me? I’m worried and on edge because I want to know everything is going ok… will they have me in for a scan soon? Will they get me in regularly because of my medical condition? any advice/tips would be great?🫶🏻

They should get in contact with you by 8-10 weeks (that’s when they contacted me) and you’ll have a scan at 12 weeks. You can always pay for an early scan (unfortunately they can be a bit pricey) but once they know about your condition they might offer you scans every two weeks or every month like they did with me and my baby. You can also ring your local maternity triage number for your local hospital and ask for advice about it <3 xx

As above and also worth asking your local early pregnancy unit for advice. Some may accept walk in, some do not. Best wishes for your pregnancy.

Look up your local hospital and find the contact details for their early pregnancy unit. I've had a history of ectopic pregnancy so in all future pregnancies I need a scan at 6 weeks. You could ask the EPU about your gynae history and whether you need an early scan.

I'm not sure whether it is everywhere or not, but with my previous pregnancy, in my home town area, if you've had a miscarriage before you were eligible for an early scan to check everything and they made contact within a few days to arrange an initial appointment. I'm in a similar situation, two previous miscarriages also with a condition, the anxiety! When I signed up to my area's it said contact within 5 days, hoping to find out about early scan etc as well! Sending love and best wishes x

I had a missed miscarriage in May and I’m also under gynaecology with CIN 2 surveillance and I have a heart condition so all my pregnancies have been high risk but my first scan is still in early December at the 12 week mark and my booking appointment is at 8+3 x

@Gemma Ive just had a letter through from my smear saying I’ve got severe diskaryosis which is adding to my worries😭

@Chelsea Ahhh bless you. It’s definitely anxiety inducing. I have high risk HPV and moderate abnormal cells. I’ve had punch biopsies which can increase the risk of miscarriage and after our loss earlier in the year I’m definitely more on edge this time around. Might be best to book yourself in for an early scan when you’re estimated to be around 7 weeks. That means even if your dates are slightly out you should still see a heartbeat and hopefully ease anxiety x

@Gemma thankyou. I’m so on edge. The appointment for the colposcopy is on the 30th and they’ve booked it with a gyna/surgeon so I can talk to her about the pregnancy at the same time. Fingers crossed it goes well🫶🏻
