Kick counts

Is everyone monitoring the times of day their baby moves? My LG is so active all the time so I stopped for a while but am now wondering if that was irresponsible. Should I keep tracking or is it ok to be a bit relaxed about it?

I started writing mine now as didn’t think there was really a pattern but have stopped now as I feel I’ve got a bit of a pattern and know what feels normal for me

Do people actually count?! Surely a baby isn’t going to kick the same amount of times an hour or day etc lol. Iv just been going with what feels normal for her and roughly wanting to feel some type of movement every hour ish. Sometimes I stop and think ‘have I felt her in a while?’ And then I will give her a prod and a wiggle and she will respond.

I was told at my last midwife appointment that they don’t advocate kick counts as such anymore but just to try and be aware of your babies patterns or normal activity levels xx

I wondered about this, can't remember where I read this but the evidence doesn't support counting kicks, ie. women who formally kick count don't have different birth outcomes to women who don't. So there's no need to count, just to be aware if you think it seems like reduced or stopped movement.

I don't count actual kicks but keep track of periods of movement. I think its individual really. My midwife and consultant understand why I do it and are happy with it. Keeping track for me personally has reduced my anxiety slightly in this pregnancy. I think if you have a clear pattern and your confident at knowing then your fine. We lost our daughter at 25+6 and so my mind plays tricks on me in this pregnancy and convinces me I imagined the movement. So now when I have a period I move the tracker so that later when my mind tries to convince me I can at least see my tracker.

I know baby moves roughly every 1.5 hours so if I haven't felt her I make a point to sit down and focus . I had a period yesterday where I thought oh I haven't felt her in a bit but we had been really busy decorating and after ten mins sat down she was wriggling like crazy

Thank you all this makes me feel better. My LG is wriggly so on a day to day I know her patterns but when I have a busy weekend and I don’t feel her as much it makes me regret not recording her movements. But validating to know others are doing the same as me xx

I am the same. I was so busy Saturday and didn’t feel baby move. So I did what my midwife and count the kicks suggested. Count them over a period of 1-2 hrs in a position that works, cold fluids etc and if still nothing to go get seen. But thankfully once I relax and did that movements where back to normal and been the same Sunday and today. X

His patterns change fairly frequently & he’s active *all the time* at my last ob apt not one but two extra midwives had to hold him in place to get more than one or two beats o. The Doppler before he squirmed away lol . I wouldn’t have time to do anything else if I was counting- he goes all day and night and I’ve heard that most of the time they’re asleep but they can still kick and stuff in their sleep just like we move around at least at night bit … they have less of the paralysing sleep stages & more of the others
