Pump doesn’t pump hind milk

Hi all I’ve noticed my pump doesn’t seem to collect any milk after 10 minute mark of pumping and it’s always watery fore milk that is collected. I keep pumping for another 20 mins to try to catch some hind milk but nothing else comes out. Is this normal? Anyone got any advice pls

There’s no set time of when your milk turns from ‘foremilk’ to ‘hindmilk’ some don’t even believe in the two terms. I actually found when I was pumping that it’d all come out in the first 6 minutes and in the remaining 14 minutes I may get like an additional 20mL max. Some people take a while to get their milk flowing and need the full 20 minute pump, others don’t. You’ll notice with your pumped milk that if you refrigerate it, the next day it’ll separate a bit and you’ll get a fatty layer up the top and it’ll look thinner and possibly bluer down the bottom. The top fat layer is the “hindmilk”.

Thank you so much, you’ve made me feel a lot better

@Shantelle totally agree, my milk isn’t very fatty either. It will adapt to what your baby needs and my girl needs more liquidity and hydrating milk
