Moms of multiples! When did you move your first to a big kid bed?

My son will be 2 years and 1 month when this baby is born so I’d like to move him into a big boy bed so baby can have that crib, etc. Did you skip toddler bed and go straight to a twin or full? Did you do a regular bed with removable rails or a floor bed? I want something that will last him several years which is why I’m leaning towards just skipping the “toddler” bed! Thanks! 😊

@Laurel that’s what I’m thinking, just go straight to twin or full! I don’t want a floor bed but I def want something really low! I feel like it’s hard to find exactly what I’m looking for because I love a really vintage/old school look. 😅

We move my son at 12 months (now 16 months) from crib and went straight to full size. I love it because we all fit to do bedtime books and if he ever wakes up my husband or I can comfortably lay with him and sleep there if needed. I recommend not going super cheap on the mattress since you could be in it at times :)

@DMS great thinking! When my son wakes up from his nap he loves to play this game we call “mamas in the crib” where I climb in with him and we snuggle and just play around for a few mins as he’s still waking up, and it definitely made me realize I wanted to get a squishier mattress for him now that he’s older 🤣😅

Wondering the same thing! My daughter will also be a little over 2 when the baby is born. I’m worried about her not staying in her bed and am leaning more towards keeping her in the crib for as long as we can😅

@Alex haha this is also a worry of mine! My son is SUCH a good easy sleeper. Like we lay him down at 7:30 and he’s out, doesn’t wake up at all, etc. So change scares me bc I’d hate to mess anything up! 😂🤣

I went with a medium firm mattress since firmer is recommended for younger kids. We kept the crib in his room for the first month so we could use it if we needed to. There were some naps/nights he did end up in the crib, but eventually we were mattress 100% of the time! Since we did it at 12 months, we did mattress only on the floor (on top of a water resistant exercise puzzle mat) but I want to transition to a low profile bed frame in a few months. I am hoping that since he is used to the boundaries of his mattress, I won’t need any rails or bumpers🤞 I am happy that I transitioned before the new baby comes, but keep in mind the new baby probably won’t need the crib for a few months if you have a bassinet! So you have some extra time if the crib is working for you! @Abby @Alex good luck!!
