Cot to bed transition?

Has anyone taken the sides off their cots yet? I'm thinking we will maybe attempt when our LB turns 2 but we feel like he will literally get out of bed and walk around his room for hours 😂 We will probably but a bed guard on it to begin with but still not sure how to navigate it? At the moment we put him to bed about 7ish and he'll be lead there happily relaxing until he falls asleep which can sometimes be up to an hour, if the sides are off the cot he'll be out 😂 Any ideas? I’m gonna wait until as late as possible to be honest. I want her to really understand about staying in bed which she defo won’t atm. As long as she’s not too big for it and is not climbing it then we’ll leave the sides up x

I put my daughter in a bed at 18 months and she stays in there all night until I go in there in the morning. I wait until she’s asleep to leave the room.

I don’t see the point until they either climb out or understand the need to stay in bed x
