When does it become more enjoyable

My baby is 5 months old and I have found it all sooo difficult tbh I’ve not enjoyed any of it so far it’s all been so hard I am looking forward to being able to do fun things and be out and about enjoying things together. I am slowly noticing my mood is picking up as I’ve had pnd but just wondered from other mums is it more enjoyable when they start crawling or walking? My baby is so clingy and cries as soon as they are put down so very difficult

I can totally relate to this post as I also had pnd. If I'm honest it started to get better at 4-5 months and every month just gets better. I think it's because my LB is doing a lot more. X

My baby is also very clingy. I think it's different phases they go through xx

@Leanne @Leanne this is reassuring to hear I’ve been so down and low but have definitely noticed I’m not crying as much during the days and I’m starting to have a connection with my baby but still super clingy and the days are so long I want to enjoy them asap but very hard still hoping once crawling starts it gets better

Just to say you're not alone. My little boy had colic and so basically spent the first 3 months of his life crying inconsolably. We then had a few short weeks of him seeming a bit happier, and I was just starting to feel like I was enjoying motherhood but he turned 4 months a couple of weeks ago and is back to being cranky and unhappy pretty much all the time. I'm finding it so hard, and I don't want to wish the time away, but I'm also just desperate for things to get better and for him to be happier and to start feeling like I can enjoy being a mum a bit more. Hope things start to feel better for you soon as well x

@Amy aw that sounds horrible and very hard for you I’m sorry this is the start of motherhood for you also it really sucks doesn’t it! I get myself out and about so much like twice a day and I see and meet so many lovely mums who keep saying to me oh enjoy them whilst they are this young it goes so fast and I reply with sorry if this makes me sound awful but I can’t wait for my baby to get older and more independent I’m really not enjoying it so you are not alone with wishing time away I’ve never felt like time is going so slow in all my life. I love my baby loads and feel guilty everyday but I’m doing the best I can and ticking each day off it’s flippin hard! Sending you love ❤️

This is a bit controversial to say but I don’t enjoy the baby stage all that much either 🥶 with my first baby I didn’t enjoy it til she was about six months and could sit up, eat food and play more. Then we could do more varied things, go to cafes and sit her in a high chair etc…. Now she’s nearly 2 she’s hilarious and despite the tantrums she’s great fun. Second time round with baby no.2 now I am much more relaxed because I know it does get easier and so much more fun, if that makes sense, but newborns just aren’t for me 😂

@Lauren this is just so reassuring and good to hear honestly I am beginning to think it’s the baby stage I’m not liking also as I always thought I was so good with kids and often looked after friends and family’s little ones before I had my own but looking back they have all been from like crawling/walking age upwards so I think I’ll enjoy it more then. I thought I’d be a natural from day one but I’ve found that I’m having to try so so hard everyday. Hasn’t helped that I’ve had PND but the quicker things get better and enjoyable I’ll be the fun mum I always dreamed of. Thank you for being honest it’s hard when I’m out all the mums I meet seem like everything is great and perfect which is why I don’t speak up much as fear I’ll be judged

I am sorry to hear this. Sounds like you are spending time outdoors and meeting other mums, which is great. It does get easier as the time goes by. One thing I recently discovered which has helped a lot in terms of calming the baby is baby massage. My baby and I went to a 2 part group course led by a lovely lady who is also a doula and it was amazing. I found it was a calming and enjoyable experience for both of us. Now I use these newly acquired techniques as part of our evening routine to calm the baby before bath. Perhaps worth exploring if baby massage classes are available in your area. I hope you feel happier soon. Be kind to yourself. It gets better.
