Routines

So I have a 3 year old and a May baby, struggling a bit with bedtimes. My 3 year old has always gone to bed around 6:30-7:30 on the odd occasions later, but she’ll always get 12 hours and I’m fine with waking up around 7am. Obviously she doesn’t nap in the day anymore, but I’m struggling with my youngest. She’s sometimes waking at 4:30am ready for the day, then she’s ready to nap at 6am but by that time she’s woken my toddler up 🥲!! She also still wakes up for night feeds, my toddler stopped at around 4 months and she’s always slept through since. I know all babies are different but I need some sort of plan lol. Just wondering if any of you gals have a cut off point for your babies to nap, what keeps them awake in the evenings, what time they actually go to sleep etc. i tried to keep my youngest awake the other day and she was having none of it. Last night we was out until 9pm and she actually did stay awake which was lush we had a lie in. But I love that they go to sleep so early usually because that’s the only time I actually get to myself!!! BUT if it means putting my youngest’s bedtime later for the sake of no more 4am wake ups then I will 😂

Im the same with a 3 year old & 5 month old. I try & stop my baby from napping after 5 so he sleeps at 7pm. But I’ve actually found if I put him to bed later he still gets up the same time anyway 😂. He wakes any time from 5/6 to start the day! We have a lot of night wake ups & my toddler still wakes sometimes 🥴

My babies always seems ready for bed around 6/630pm and I ideally want her to go bed around 730pm but not sure how to as she gets so overtired, if I nap her again she wants to stay asleep. I guess when they get older and nap less it all changes?

Are you all in the same room? It's my 3 year old waking the baby up in the night for me 🙈 I would try and move the last nap a little later so bed time is slightly later and she hopefully sleeps later. My baby naps around 4ish for 30-60 minutes and is then asleep about 8 and toddler also goes to bed about 7.30/8ish generally. He does still nap so is often a bit later though.

I have a 21 month old and a 5 month old. I’m more relaxed about getting my youngest to have a final nap, definitely have found he can be grumpy but he just never seems to want to have that last nap so I don’t force it. I usually put my daughter to bed at around 7ish and then put him to bed after. Sleep breeds sleep, and people often say if your child is waking up early they may actually need an earlier bed time, which seems counterintuitive but it works. When your baby is waking at 4.30 why are you assuming they’re ready to start the day? If my son woke up at 4.30 even if it took over an hour I’d try get him back to sleep because one I do nottttt want to start my day then 😂 and two I don’t want him to get into the habit of thinking that 4.30am is wake up time. This morning for example he woke up at 7, I went in and fed him and put him back down and went back to sleep for over an hour. If they’re fine laying awake and chatting I’d leave them for a bit and then try resettle!

I have this exact same challenge. My little girl (now 2 and a half) slept through from 10 weeks pretty consistently. My little boy (5 months) seems to sleep through 8.30 - 7am during the week then Friday, Saturday and Sunday he wakes up at 4am. I’ve decided it’s because I’m pretty routined during the week and I cap the naps at 1hour 15 but at the weekends we’ve let him do a super long lunchtime nap like his sister and it then he has too much sleep during the day. It’s taken us about 3 weeks and some long night feeds to woke this out but next weekend I am going to be militant 😂😂😂😂

@Charlotte yep we’re all in the same room lol! I’m in no rush to get my 3 year old in her own room yet. We especially bought a superking bed recently so we have more room! I might try separate bedtimes tbh!

@Georgina that’s wild! Might try an earlier bedtime but can’t imagine putting her down any sooner than 6:30pm 😂!!! She’s defo ready for the day chatting away in her cot, on the odd chance she’ll go back after an hour or so and a bottle but typically won’t until 6 ish 🫠 then my 3 year old who sleeps in with us is awake for the day!!! It’s a battle with balance with the two sleeping in our room haha. A mothers life 😂💀

@Amy that’s brill for the week! How many naps does he usually have? 7am wake up sounds like an actual dream to me right now 🥲
