What to expect at consultant appointment - fibroids?

Hi all. I have a fibroid which I was aware about before pregnancy, it was only small (3cm ish) and has never been a worry at any of my scans, it’s at the top of my uterus on the fundus and not in baby’s way apparently. However at my last midwife appointment (25 weeks) she was baffled that no one had put me with a consultant / I had not been with a consultant this whole time, because fibroids can ‘cause baby to be small’ or cause other complications. I did say that during my scans they never seem worried about mine, but she checked something online (like a list of things that require a consultant) and said fibroids are on there as needing to have a consultant. She said someone should have referred me way before this, so has booked me in with a consultant and I have an appointment at the hospital on Thursday. It’s made me a bit worried and concerned that no one has referred me before?? I’m now 28 weeks, surely it would have been picked up by someone, I mention my fibroid at every appointment or scan and it’s on my badger notes! I have no idea what this appointment entails or what to expect. Will I be scanned? Will it just be like a doctor’s appointment? Has anyone else had a consultant appointment for fibroids who can let me know what goes on? Thanks :)

I feel like she’s overreacting a bit, so my first pregnancy my fibroid was around 5cm, also nowhere near baby but because it was over 5cm I had to go for growth scans- my daughter was 8lb4 so deffo not small! This time around I still have it but it’s only 3cm so I was signed off by the consultant after my 20 week scan she said it’s not an issue

I’m with @Chelsea! She is overreacting. I have x2 3cm fibroids and they were seen many times and ignored during my 1st and 2nd pregnancies. First baby was 7lbs 1oz. Pretty average! I think your consultant appointment will be pretty straightforward and nothing to worry about.

Thanks both I feel the same like she was overreacting. Maybe just one of those who follow every rule, which is great tbh as I suppose she’s meant to with it being her job! 😄 I will probably just be signed off my the consultant then :) I’m glad they are being thorough at least 😊

I have one of 1.5cm and also out of the baby's way and they referred me to consultant and when I had the appointment he said he didn't understood why they referred me because consultants will only investigate further if is 10cm + or if is smaller but on the cervix. No worries, your appointment will go well 😊

@Dayana ah interesting! That’s how mine will go then most likely. I feel like it’s a waste of time but I’ll just go and get it done with😂
