Childcare anxiety

My little boy starts childminder in 11 weeks he will be 13months. We have worked so hard on his sleep and getting him in a routine I’m so scared that this will not happen when he is there. I understand they may have their own routine, but things like not letting him sleep past 3pm to protect bedtime, and him having certain naps and sleep environment. I had quite bad PP anxiety and I can feel it rearing its ugly head as I’m so worried his sleep will be affected and I’ll be up all night with him. Sleep is a huge trigger for me. Any advice?

My little boy is at nursery 2 days a week, and has been since just before 9 months. They follow his routine and do everything I ask. I'm not sure about child minders but I'm sure, like nursery, they'll stick to your routine as much as possible

I would say to talk to the childminder, they need to help you follow your babies routine. I work at a nursery and when parents say things like "no sleeping longer than an hour" we follow it. So just talk to them and hopefully they'll be very understanding. If not, I'm afraid you haven't found the right childminder x

Honestly, I would do whatever you need to do to prepare mentally for temporary disruption to the routine. Then you’ll be pleasantly surprised if all goes exactly to plan, but as ready as you can be to manage the feelings around sleep if things don’t go exactly to plan. Sure, settings can and should be supportive but ultimately your baby just may not sleep the same for them as he does for you, even if they can follow your routine. Ultimately, things like not napping past a certain time are fairly easy for them to stick to, but to have very specific requests over the schedule and the environment in which he will sleep is often just not achievable in some/all settings. Have a chat with them to see what can be done for sure and what they’d find more difficult or can’t do, and then you could either carry on as you are, make tweaks to replicate what will happen at the childminder, find a new setting if it really comes to that etc.
