Tips for congested baby

My little boy is very congested and snotty. We have saline spray and the frida snot sucker which is helping slightly but he is still very congested and struggling especially when lying down. I’ve seen a humidifier can be useful, has anyone had any success with one? Any other tips would be appreciated! TIA xxx

For me personally, humidifiers are a must for baby’s. Plus it reduces the risk of SIDS. Also my baby is really congested with lots of mucus bc of acid reflux the dr told me to try sitting him in the bathroom while I shower or just with the water running to help loosen his mucus and it’s worked well for my son. So try that :)

I tried everythingggggggggg. My daughter has had broncolitis three times. Nebuliser changed the game for me. Fill with saline and whilst in the bath at night I would nebulise. And then her bed is very elevated to ensure she’s not lying flat. I do keep a humidifier on so deffo get one. And I olbus oiled the place up. Even put olbus in a diffuser over night

I just bought a cheap humidity sensor for the house from amazon, cost £5 and saw the humidity is too high so buying a dehumidifier which arrives today. Might be worth buying one and checking before buying a dehumidifier, as if humidity is too low then it also causes respiratory problems. Also if humidity is high, probably worth treating house for dust mites as they thrive in those conditions, wash all bedding at 60 degrees, steam mattresses, carpets and upholstery. Will make a big difference if its allergy related. X

Yes humidifier, saline drops, and nasal aspirator work for us. We have the vicks brand with the vicks scent and it works wonders. Also elevating his head while sleeping. I remember when my son was younger and he would get so congested, he'd have a hard time staying asleep lying down on the bed. He would sleep for a while and then wake up crying because he couldn't breathe. I was desperate for sleep myself so I just let him sleep on my shoulder, and I would have all the pillows set up on the bed so I can sleep while sitting up. It wasn't the most comfortable for me but it helped him have a better sleep throughout the night.

I follow this order: - steam bathroom with hot shower and spray eucalyptus in there - saline spray - I used to put mine in a rocker or bouncer and sit them in the bathroom for about 10mins - cool the shower down to a more comfortable warm and shower with them (usually snot it pouring at this point). - saline spray again - dry/massage/routine + Vicks on chest & back - dress - snot suck - occasionally spray eucalyptus spray, saline & either a humidifier or boiled water and oils Usually the first spray combined with the the steam and eucalyptus gets a lot of their congestion loose. I’ll purely spray again to make sure it stays soft until I get to the snot sucker stage and clear out as much as I can. I also used to prop up the bassinet (stick a soft block wedge under one side), so he is tilted up. Hope your LO gets better soon xx

Thank you all very much ❤️❤️
