Sleep.

I need help!! So my son (one years old) has two naps a day but he is going to sleep at night by 10pm! And waking up by 6am/7am in the morning, what do we do!? He usually naps for 2 and a half hours in the morning and then one hour late afternoon, we have tried to drop the late afternoon one but he still stays up till 10pm! It's like he doesn't want to ever sleep! Just feel like there's no time in the day at all for me time, I don't have any time to myself, he's up at 6am to 7am and then pretty much awake at 10pm so I don't get time, and his morning nap I do usually nap as well because I'm that exhausted! But don't know what to do. I'm absolutely shattered, I need me time, I am human.

It definitely sounds like he’s ready to drop a nap, maybe try waking him after 1.5 hours in the morning, and not letting him sleep later than 3:30pm in the afternoon? It sounds so tough 😔 you’re doing brilliantly. My daughter has dinner at 5:30pm, a bath between 6:30-7pm then a bedtime story and milk and asleep by 7:30pm and she sleeps through until 5:30-6am. She has one nap a day when she’s at nursery and sometimes 2 on a weekend. Every child is different but I hope you get some relief soon xxxxx

3.5 hours is a lot of day sleep for a baby of this age. I would stick to two naps as dropping a nap before they’re ready will mean havoc for overnight sleep but cap them so that you can fit two and a regular bedtime. We wake at 630 and go to bed between 7-8 and have 2 hours of day sleep split over 2 naps x

Baby only need 12-14 hours of sleep a day at this age. Mine dropped a nap some time ago. I miss that second nap. But now he does wake at 7, nap 1-3 if we're lucky, bed 8.30-9ish. I generally fall asleep with him by 9.30 after laying with him and ensuring he doesn't have a false start. I then wake up at 11pm and prep his breakfast, lunch and snacks for the childminder the next day three nights a week. which means I don't get any me time and I'm still so tired. I feel your pain.

Maybe drop the morning nap? I have 1 year old twins and they go to bed around 11/11:30 and wake up between 1pm to 2pm and go to bed at 6pm every night x

You are amazingly lucky whether you feel it or not & ill say this for all the Mums with poor sleepers, my son has woken every 2-3 hours since he was born, a 2.5 hour nap in the morning, is brilliant in terms of you time then doing a 8 hour stretch? Amazing! You might not have your evenings, but you're still in a much better position than a lot of Mums c

@Rebecca I’m not sure that’s massively helpful!! It’s all relative and she was just asking for a bit of help as is clearly tired. Yes there are defs worse sleepers out there but when you are in the thick of it in your own situation it’s hard!

@Gem Thank you 🩵

@Jessica you are welcome! Everyone’s situation is so different and I’ve been told…”oh it’s fine” and it’s demoralising and exhausting. You are doing a fab job just remember that xx

@Gem yes thats very true, and thank you! 😊 I am trying xx

Our lo sleeps 1 hour across the day, 30 mins each nap. Has changed her from waking in the nights every 2 hours to sleeping solidly for 8+ hours without a peep . I wish someone has told us this before!

Deffo think those naps are to long , probs find 2 hours total day sleep and make sure last nap isn’t finished too late so bed can be more like 8pm fingers crossed. I do wake 7/7:

@Emily this isn't a competition post. Everyone has different circumstances & all babies are different, by your comment I've been made to feel guilty for even posting my post, and that's not ok. Please re think what you comment on people's posts. Thanks.

Not sure if you can but I’d try delay the morning nap a bit. See if that’ll then turn his naps into 1 nap. My son goes down for his nap at 10am-1:30/2pm (I know it’s a lot of sleep but it works for him! Every child is different) and he will go to bed at 8pm and sleep through till 6-7am x
