Car seat rear facing for tall toddler

My toddler is about 85cm tall. Him rear-facing in the car just doesn’t seem comfortable, and what baffles me is that his seat is suitable till 4. How? Safety is always a priority but how are other kids seated? Since he was 1, I’ve had to lift his feet and legs to turn him. We have the Joie 360 spin.

My daughter is 3 last time we did her height she was around 90/92cm and she has never complained about been uncomfortable rear facing 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s actually more comfortable as they’re legs don’t dangle and get pins and needles etc! Kids are super flexible haha Idk what centile your little one is on but his seat may not last until 4 if he’s high on the centiles!

It’s a common misconception that if their legs are ‘squished’ they are uncomfortable, it’s not true absolutely rear face for as long as possible, we have an extended rear facing seat that rear faces til 32kg or 125cm with my sons current centiles he will rear face til around 8/9 years old

Also just to add car seats don’t go of age they go of weight and height the joie spin is suitable to 18kg many high centile kids will reach that before age 4

We have the same seat and started Forward facing in the last few months. Son just hated rear facing to the point he was vomiting daily in the car because he was crying so much and it was making going in the car so stressful and I couldn’t concentrate either because he was so upset. So me and my partner just had to balance it all out and made the informed decision to forward face and it’s like night and day and he’s much more comfortable and happy in the car. Like the others have said, it doesn’t mean they are uncomfortable of their legs look squished and if your son is fine RF and you don’t have big issues with him in the car then obviously keep him that way as it is what’s advised as safer xxx

My middle son rear faced till he was 5. He just to cross his legs or put them up the back of the seat or dangle them over the sides. He complains now that his legs hurt on long journeys he's forward facing now. Tbh the spin isn't great for leg room and if your little one is higher centiles it won't last till 4. My middle boy outgrew it at 2.5 years and we bought him a minikid3.

We use maxway plus erf seat our lb is almost 3.5yrs old just over 16kg and exactly 1m tall

My daughter is in a ERF seat that goes to 36kg 125cm Shes tall but will last her til its safe to ff at 5

My girl is 93cm and still rear facing. Make sure it’s an ERF seat and don’t worry about the legs. In the UK, there’s no reported rear facing car seat leg fractures. Just watch how your toddler sits/sleeps, they never sit “normally” and they are very bendy xx

Honestly, keep them rear facing. The longer, the better.

Thank you, Mommies! This was all very helpful 🤍
