Extra pumped milk

Is it realistic to be able to pump extra breastmilk?? I’ve been seeing so many videos of moms having freezers just packed full of breastmilk and I don’t understand 🥲 is that just because they have an oversupply? Or is that a common thing? Ive been both pumping and breastfeeding for about 5 weeks and there was only a few days where I actually had a couple extra bottles in the fridge. I honestly just want to be able to have enough extra that I can leave the house for a few hours and let dad take care of baby… or not have to worry about breastfeeding in public. I really don’t want to use formula

I believe that's oversupply. How much is your current pumping output for one session?

So I’m on my 3rd breastfeeding journey and this is the first time I actually have breast milk saved up in my freezer. It just wasn’t a thing with my last two, no matter what, I never built some big freezer stash. I think the reason I do have some this time is because my milk came in way faster and stronger than my other babies and so baby couldn’t get it all and I’ve needed to pump quite a bit. I do feel that slowing down at this point though. I think it’s just different for every person and every baby..

Don’t feel bad, everyone is different! My baby is 2 weeks old and I tried to pump one day but then left him hungry as I didn’t have enough milk for him to eat and I had to give him the bottle that I pumped earlier that day. I was so depressed and cried for 2 days thinking I’m losing my milk and won’t be able to feed him. You gotta listen to your body and do what’s right for you and your baby. Our babies are building our supply. My son cluster feeds so it’s not realistic for me to pump and feed him non stop. Not sure about you but my boobs leak while I feed him so what I started doing is collecting the leaking milk and store that on the side. I was able to put two 4oz bags in the freezer in the last couple of days and it made me feel so good. My first bag was over course of 4 days lol Or just buy Manuel pump and empty your breast after your baby finishes the feed that way you’ll increase your supply and be able to put something on the side.

@Keerthivasini 3-4 oz every 2-3 hours

That's a good supply. You are neither under supply nor over. So don't worry! You are doing great.

If you're EBF AND pumping 3-4oz every 2-3 hours, you are doing GREAT! Average is around 2oz pumped after a feed. People with big freezer stashes are generally oversupplies, which is not default. I know it can be disheartening to see, but remember, your body is producing what your baby needs. You dont need 2-3 times baby's demand. You got this 💪

@Stephanie lol I wish I was pumping that much after breastfeeding! I meant that I have not been exclusively pumping. I try to pump and bottle feed during the day and breastfeed at night!

@Jovana mine usually leak at night because I’m only waking up when baby does, I should try collecting from the side he’s not nursing off. Thanks!

So youve been exclusively pumping for 5 weeks and still have 3-4oz a session? Baby is only 5 weeks old? If so, your supply hasnt even regulated yet! If you do as others have suggested and have a night time pumping routine like you do daytime, you will definitely begin to supply more!
