🧸Do you tape your baby's belly button down?🧸

It's a tradition in my family, we wrap a quarter and tape it down on the belly button. I'm doing this with my 2-month-old. 👶🏻

Is to prevent baby from having an outie. I asked my pediatrician and she said it's an old wives but I'm still doing it regardless.

@Elizabeth lol

I didn't hear of this until I saw it on Instagram, and to be honest, I know very few people with outies but I think that's because it may be genetically more likely to have an innie

I didn’t n I think he might have an outie so will probs do it w the next

No judgement, but why do you want to prevent an outie?

Haven’t done this (first time I heard it actually 😂) on 3 babies and we all have innies. Maybe it’s genetics 💁🏻‍♀️😂

@Kassidi it's something we've been doing in the family for a couple generations. Just the way we do things.

@Violeta💕 that’s interesting! Like I said no judgment, I just never heard of it before

Nope

@Kassidi My grandmother scolded me recently for not taping it down...lol, she even made me a cloth wrap to assure I put it on his belly button

Outies are so cute!!

@Kylie potentially yes, I'll have to do my research on it.

I was told my my mom and mil to for all 4 kids. My last boy had an umbilical hernia (outie) i bought a belt thingie from Amazon only put it on him a few times bc I felt bad I thought it was uncomfortable. Anyway I took him ti the ones bc I wanted to be sure it was ok. Pediatrician said not to worry. If it’s still an issue at 5-6 yo then surgery may be required. And yes. He’s 5mos and he’s gone down all the way. Just looks like a little extra skin but I’m sure it’ll tighten in. Hernia lasted for maybe 2 mos

Took him to the pediatrician** I hate this new phone!!!

Being an innie or an outie isn't genetic. It's all about how the doctor ties the umbilical cord and how it heals.

It’s tradition in family only when they are new born, after the first month we stop, supposedly the bellybutton looks pretty doing that but I do not believe but I did it anyway to make both my mother and mother in law happy. 😆

Never heard of this before

Absolutely never heard of or seen this.

In the Caribbean back in the days when there was an umbilical hernia they would say to wrap a bible around the baby.. so put a bible on it and bandage it around the baby tightly and they swore it would go down. The way the umbilical cord is “tied off” makes no difference to having a hernia or not… we get ours clamped and it’s never clamped flush to the skin… it will always dry out and fall off near the skin, not near the clamp/tie. It’s to do with how formed the abdominal muscles are.

My people do it if baby has an outtie, I didn’t do it with my first as she had an innie and I still didn’t do it with my now 6 month as he has an outtie, as he grows it is going inwards though, I have no issue with the practice I just couldn’t be bothered, my outtie I had as a child at some point in my teens became and innie I didn’t even notice

@Kassidi someone at some point in their society decided it was more appealing. I’m not judging either, it’s also practiced where I’m from. I would say though some outies are huge,the was a boy growing up who had one the size of a lime and we always commented on it whenever he was shirtless to play soccer

@Michele Lool same here! I had a tiny outie when I was younger (about the size of a green pea) and at some point in my teens it just disappeared and I didn’t notice either until it was fully gone and I’m like 🤔 Lool

@Violeta💕 that’s sweet 🥲

@Michele that does sound uncomfortable 😬

No. Our pediatrician said you want as much airflow to the belly button as possible and no pressure to it. Even suggested folding her diaper down below it when she was teeny tiny and her diaper could cover it.

@Anne same. The pediatrician recommended this in the newborn stage and so it could heal and dry.

We purchased a belt off Amazon !
