Anyone had a midwife say you've got a big baby when all your scans say different?

So, at my 32 week scan baby was measuring 21st percentile, at my 36 week scan (I was actually 35+1) baby was measuring 29th percentile, 5 lbs 7oz on my notes. I've just been to the MAU (for BP issues) and the midwife felt my tummy and said 'oh big baby' and I said really?! I said my last scan baby was measuring 29th percentile, and she then said 'well she's put on weight then'. I'm 36+3, at no stage has anyone said I have a big baby. My first was 6lbs 9oz at 39+2 when she was born for reference as well. Is this just a throw away comment? How much can midwives tell how big a baby is from feeling your tummy? It's just completely thrown me as it's the first time I've ever been told I have a big baby....

Mine have all been 6lb and 4lb but this baby @ 34 weeks is nearly 6lb

I would just take it as a throw away comment

i’ve had the opposite, my baby is ‘big’ (higher than 97th percentile) on the scans, but my midwife has felt him recently and said he really does not feel like a big baby to her. The scan predicted him at 7lbs 6 at 37 +4 which doesn’t sound particularly big to me, so that’s maybe why. Personally, i feel like she would be slightly more accurate than scans just as i know so many people have had incorrect weights, and she spends all day feeling babies. But at same time im not sure how accurate any of the predictions actually can be🤷🏼‍♀️

I would go off the scans, my first the midwife initially said definitely not a big baby even though the scans showed him on 97th. Then the week before he was due she changed her mind and said oh he is big when she was having a feel. He was born on the 99th centile.

The midwife measuring/feeling your tummy isn't the most accurate anyway! I was referred for growth scans due to worry he was slowing down growth, turns out scan showed him above 90th centile! And even the scans aren't 100% accurate either x

I’d defo believe a scan over a midwife judging growth from the outside!
