No calpol policy

So my child is due to start nursery and they said it’s a no calpol policy which she said I can’t give her calpol before nursery even for teething, and if I do it’s 24/48 hours to return, what is peoples thoughts?

It sounds a bit extreme to me! Also, just hypothetically, how would they know??

Well only if I said, I just wondered if it was a new thing

I’ve never heard that one. How do you feel about it?

I know some don’t give it for teething but they normally give some for something like a temperature but they call to ask. They can’t dictate if you give it at home! I wouldn’t say if you did, it seems ridiculous!

Yes I’m not sure if I want her to go there now because sometimes I think her ears hurt and I give it, it’s for nothing contagious, they said it’s because it could mask an illness

It sounds like they don't want people dosing up kids to mask a fever and sending them in to nursery when they're sick but I wouldn't want to send my kid there. I'd want to have a relationship based on trust because I'm not going to not give my little one calpol if he's in pain and it's gonna make him better *and* I'd never send him to nursery with a fever.

Too many parents unfortunately do dose up their children to be well enough to go to nursery and mask illness when they really should just be kept at home, and it’s not fair on the child or the children and staff they’re mixing with to have it used in that way. That said, it is unusual to have a blanket policy like this and say you can’t even give it for teething! I wouldn’t be happy to have someone telling me what I can and can’t do with my own child, especially if I think they’re in pain from teething. I understand the sentiment behind it, but it wouldn’t be something I’d be happy to agree to or abide by!

From what I’ve heard it’s quite a common policy x

I’ve heard of the nursery not giving it but not that you can’t give it yourself before sending them in. Like others have said, Calpol isn’t just for temps. And there’s been times where my little boy (nearly 3yo) has had an on and off or slightly raised temp for days but has been fine otherwise so I’ve send him in after Calpol. Obviously if the temp is really high I wouldn’t send him in, or if there were other symptoms (rashes, sickness etc), but surely it would be better for them to not have that rule so people are more likely to be honest about it??

I’d give calpol and not tell them! 🤯

This is wild!! My lb goes to Nursery 3 days a week and he has been given calpol / nurofen often (with my permission of course) for his teething! Id also give calpol before hand and say nothing unless baby was sick with a bug that could spread x

Yes I won’t say anything, just hoping they don’t ring me to pick up all the time like with a common cold or something like that

That's new.. my eldest has Calpol. That's a bit rubbish for the baby.
