No, I see she has colostrum and it’s an amazing amount. But she feels like she doesn’t because the baby still cries for more. I don’t want to push her to keep breastfeeding because we’ve all been there and it could get stressful. And I have told her it take 3 to a week to have her milk come in.
Basically I want to help reassure her and help with possibly bringing in her milk supply faster if there is anyway.
How old is her baby
She could pump to potential help it
My milk didn’t come in until after we left the hospital. It takes time. Colostrum is enough for the baby right now.
@Haley 💚 Thats what I thought, I thought colostrum was enough for the baby 😕 but she feels like its not enough and breastfeeds her and then also formula feeds her (WHICH IS OKAY) but idk if thats overfeeding, and she doesn’t know anything about breastfeeding and I wouldn’t want to give her false information because im no expert myself.
@Gabrielle the baby is 3 days old, and which pump? She has the lansinoh handsfree pump and she also has a medela manual pump
My milk came in 5 days PP. couldn’t express colostrum in any significant amount. Just kept putting baby on my breast. It worked great! It can be normal for babies to loose weight that first week of being born and they regain once milk comes in/latch is established. Does your friend qualify for WIC? They offer breastfeeding support over the phone which is actually very helpful if she doesnt have access to a lactation specialist in her community
If she can get an electric that would be the best. But a Manuel would be okay too. Did she have a vaginal birth or c section
Hiya, Breastfeeding Peer Suporter here. All she needs to do is keep putting baby to her breast. Colostrum is fine at this stage and her milk will come in if she carries on putting baby to breast. If she tops up with formula at this early stage, it runs the risk of the top up trap unless she pumps the bottle feed. Bab’ stomach is only the size of a cherry so will fill up quickly and empty quickly so it’s perfect normal for baby to be feeding a lot. https://www.unicef.org.uk/babyfriendly/baby-friendly-resources/breastfeeding-resources/off-to-the-best-start/ https://www.unicef.org.uk/babyfriendly/is-this-normal/ https://metronorth.health.qld.gov.au/rbwh/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2017/07/feeding-cues-term.pdf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIxcKqofMN0 https://sarahockwell-smith.com/2012/11/04/the-fourth-trimester-aka-why-your-newborn-baby-is-only-happy-in-your-arms/ https://www.nct.org.uk/baby-toddler/feeding/early-days/my-baby-getting-enough-milk-breastfeeding-or-forth
Colostrum is still milk, it’s just a different consistency. Nothing will speed up the change, and it doesn’t need to speed up because it is the right nutritional content for baby.
Sorry for the multiple messages, word count and a potty training toddler took attention away. The links should be good to pass onto her 🥰
Thank you so much @Emily we really appreciate the comment and the resources behind it ! ❤️
@Haley 💚 this gave us a much better perspective, thank you so much 🙏🏽

i’d tell her to keep baby on the boob as much as possible. don’t pump, avoid the bottle cause it may cause nipple confusion. keep her fed and keep baby latched, her milk will come soon
How many days has it been since she gave birth? It takes 3-7 days for milk to come in, and what are you basing her not having milk on?
