Completely normal and part of the 3 month breastfeeding crisis

@anon oh I’ve never heard of this?!

It's surprisingly uncommon knowledge and I feel it should be taught about more often. I only found out because of copious breast feeding research At around 3 months there's a lot of changes happening at once. Your boobs change to produce milk on demand instead of have a constant stockpile ready to go - This means milk takes a couple of minutes to start flowing and baby gets angry because they don't like waiting. Baby is much more efficient at getting milk so feeds don't last as long and they may only need one boob even if they used to have long feeds from both sides. Babies brain has developed more so they're noticing more of the world and become very easily distracted - Breast feeding covers or dark rooms or sitting against a plain background may help. This can last a couple weeks or a couple months but you're the main factor in whether or not your breastfeeding journey continues or not. Don't listen to people who tell you to stop breastfeeding. They don't know jack about it

@anon thank you ! This was really informative, I wasn’t aware of this at all. I just get anxious about her losing weight :( I keep trying to offer the breast regularly but a lot of the time she feeds for 2/3 minutes and then turns away. I couldn’t stop breastfeeding even if I wanted to lol she refuses bottles completely lol

It's because of the whole formula push 60ish years ago still damaging breastfeeding today. They need to do leaflets with all the struggles you'll face and how to fix them and actively encourage people to breastfeed for longer. Just keep plodding on and monitoring nappies, it gets easier

Same here, my boy has been like this for some time now (4-5 weeks), and his feeds are usually only 2-3 mins (one boob per feed). He is loosing weight and Im freaking out. Today, for the first time ever, I thought of introducing a formula, but I just can’t do it 🥹

@Sonia If he's losing weight then you may need to, especially if he's lost weight over the course of 4-5 weeks. Speak to your health visitor

At 5 months you can trust your baby knows how much they want so even if they eat less one part of the day they’ll stockpile at night or another part of the day and it balances out

Makes sense .. she’s up every 1.5 hrs over night 😭
