Screaming during feeds…

My baby is 10 weeks old and feeding is so so stressful. He screams, cries, goes completely stiff and scratches himself during feeds. Have been to the GP: first time they said I was over feeding him! Second GP I took him to said it sounds like reflux and prescribed omeprozole. It hasn’t made any difference and is still screaming! We combi feed (mainly breastfeed at night and in morning and bottles throughout the day). I took him to see a chiropractor yesterday and she said he’s holding a lot of tension down one side which is compressing on his intestines making feeding uncomfortable. She also said his palette is really tight and possibly could have a tongue tie. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? It’s really starting to affect my mood and also my confidence with taking him out, as feeding him is such a battle 😩

I did experience something like that in the beginning with my baby boy. I also combo feed. Does it happen more with breast milk or formula? In my case it was his formula that was causing it. I switched him to Kendamil goat milk and it was resolved in like a week.

Oh, poor you! Is it with bottle and breast? We went to the ostheopath once which helped a lot to remove tension. My baby is now impatient when boobs is not coming fast enough or gas. Here it sounds like pain though… I would see physio or something similar and try other feeding positions

I had this only at the breast when combo feeding, she had ‘nipple confusion’ basically expected it to feel like a bottle I used nipple sheilds it helped massively

It’s weird because certain times of the day it is better - his breastfeed at night and bottle before bed is usually less intense! Just seems to be during the day he gets really agitated! Tried Gaviscon, infacol, gripe water, omeprozole, different formulas, different bottles 😩 Thank you for your advice!

Could you try different size teats or a different bottle? Try making the formula in a different method - we have recently started the fridge method which by the time we get it has 0 air bubbles and is cold and has worked wonders for us and his stomach

@Ellie sounds like classic colic /reflux pain It’s horrible to watch them do through it and makes feeding time really stressful Burp him during feeds if you can I use dentinox colic drops in each feed too and it’s really helped with the discomfort Hang in there x

Is he still hungry?

My little lady was screaming on the boob. I gave her 1 oz of formula, and she started to settle. I've been working on increasing my supply while I give 1 oz in increments to not over feed

Please have him checked by a qualified tongue tie practitioner. It can cause tension, high palate and reflux. GP’s HV’s and osteopaths aren’t trained in tongue tie to carry out a functional assessment and, if needed, carry out a release

I remember having that drop in mood because my baby was terrible to feed. He has silent reflux. It takes a while for omeprazole to have any affect honestly i think it too about z3-4 weeks if not longer before we saw any changes . It gets better but you need to persevere with the omeprazole if it’s silent reflux. It feels like heart burn to them xx

I had a similar issue (we're breastfeeding) At my daughters 6 week check up, the doctor found a mild tongue tie. We got it fixed, and it's a little easier, but I still think there's something else going on (reflux or gas)

I had the same issue with my daughter and noticed she might be sensitive to somethings I’m eating. I cut out dairy and rice and saw a huge improvement. When it does happen, a product called Colic Calm is the only thing I’ve found effective.

We had this and were giving infacol… stopped and she was better… also stopped dairy to and shes a different baby!
