BF Babies Sleep

Hi everyone! My little boy is BF and all together I am only getting an hours sleep on a night, is this normal or should I be moving to bottles? He is constantly on me and I think its to settle himself to sleep more than hunger. I'm exhausted!

I’d say that’s normal for some breastfed babies, my friends all breastfeed and they experience the same babies waking up every 45 mins or so. I formula feed and my boy has always slept well waking up once during the night but they do say formula is more filling hence the need for a baby to not feed as often. I didn’t try breastfeeding but I knew how much I needed sleep and the impact little sleep has with my migraines and mental health so formula feeding was the right decision for me in that respect as 1 hours sleep a night would kill me ☹️ I hope things improve for you 💕

I’d try to slip a pacifier in at some point, instead of your boob! That’s how I do it. Sucking is a reflex that they have to calm themselves down / sooth.

I exclusively breast-feed through bottle and my son has been sleeping through the night since five weeks old I think that your baby might be using your body as a pacifier

Yea I've exclusively breastfed both my babies, it's a big commitment and so draining but I tell myself the pros are so worth it and it won't last forever. But I feel ya on the lack of sleep- I find that lots of the moms on this group that talk about sleep bottle feed so it's hard to not compare (and be a bit jealous of their sleep 🤪)

I personally don’t envy formula or bottle feeding mothers. Giving the boob creates such a strong bond with the baby, I am not willing to let that go for a bit more sleep that I could get in a few months time.

I breastfeed my son and he sleeps well at night however he did go through a stage of feeding/ suckling for comfort rather than actually feeding. Is he the same in the day? Try to track how long he feeds for and then try using a dummy when you go past that time. For example my son is 6months and he will feed for 4-8mins each boob (but he guzzles) my daughter used to feed for 10 mins each boob. X

Omg I’m completely with you. It’s so hard! She uses me as a pacifier at night

@Claire how did u stop him from using you as a pacifier hun? She will literally fight me for the boob and push her dummy away at night
