Comfort nursing

Will continuing to allow my 11 month old to nurse (with no milk) to sleep and for comfort prevent/stunt him from drinking other milk? He will only take sips between food but not whole bottles like other babes. (Food is also hard to get into him:/) I’m so sad I’m losing my supply even with power pumping and supplements.

Are you feeding him other milks now, or he won't take full bottles of pumped breastmilk?

following !

@Kaity I offer thawed breast milk, formula, formula with coconut water, and even raw milk lately but nothing is grabbing his attention. Maybe 5oz/day. Even tiny bits of fresh pumped milk

He's not fussy from being hungry? It sounds like he's barely eating. I'm not saying this to judge, just worried. I don't think letting him continue to nurse will stunt him, as plenty of moms do extended bf with no adverse effects. But I would talk to his ped about his lack of appetite

Thanks yeah I’m concerned too. I messaged the dr and waiting to hear back. He’s just fussy when tired or not getting something he wants. He did wake up about every hour last night but refused a bottle. When he does eat (and not spit out..) he eats a lot of meat and healthy fats. But I would feel better if he’d just eat more and a variety. I was told this can be common of toddlers. He’s had issues with eating this entire time and I’m ready for some stress relief 😅

Quick question, is he teething? My girl barely ate solids for a month because of teething. Also, as your baby gets older your supply may seem low but the nutrients in the milk changes

@Genesis thank you! im not sure. He’s drooly always and likes things in his mouth but I feel like that’s always the case. I don’t see anything on his gums. And thanks for that encouragement. You’re right. I’ve heard even a tablespoon gives them the immune support they need.

What size is the nipple flow? Maybe he needs a bigger and faster one and he’s getting frustrated because it’s not coming out quick enough. Never force feed of course, but maybe even a different type of bottle or sippy cup

Mayne he's teething?? Also, I would try a sippy cup, open cup, or a straw cup maybe that would encourage him? But honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he was teething. Keep offering him foods and whatever milk you want him.to have, when my older one was teething he only liked pouches nit solid foods for that brief moment, he was drinking out of bottles though so I knew he was getting what he needed.

@Kayley thanks! I’ve tried various nipple sizes and at this point he takes sippy cups better but still just a few sips. Same with a straw @Megan he could be teething! Hasn’t had any in 5 months so ones gotta be coming by now right? 😛 it’s been going on for a few weeks now and just getting worse so praying something changes soon!
