Collecting Colostrum

Hi lovely mums, I started trying to collect colostrum two days ago but haven’t had any luck – not even a drop yet! I’ve been having a warm shower, massaging for about 5 minutes, and then expressing for 10, but all I’ve ended up with are sore nipples. For those of you who’ve done this, how long did it take before you started seeing results? How often did you try each day? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Following!

With my first, I did all the above (hot shower, massage) and put a hot water bottle on my boob for 5 mins. This worked and I found once it started to come out, it flowed. I’d then put the hot water bottle on the other boob and basically just kept switching! After a few days, it definitely became easier! Hope that helps ☺️

I did this last night and only got a few drops. Am hoping that it will increase a bit when I next try 🤞🏼

Hi! Don’t get discouraged 🫶🏼 I started exactly at 37+0 and it went as follows: Day 1 - tried in the evening (hot shower + breast massage), got absolutely nothing Day 2 - tried in the morning (hot water bottle + massage), then in the evening (hot shower + massage), still got nothing both times Day 3 - tried three times (morning, afternoon, evening) following the same routine (some warmth + massage) - got 0.2ml in the evening Day 4 - three times, got 2 ml in total Day 5 - three times, got 5 ml in total Day 6 onwards - I get around 5 ml per session I’ve only used hand expression as using a pump for colostrum isn’t recommended. My nipples got sore on Day 2 so I started using Lansinoh Lanolin Cream after each attempt and it’s been helping massively 😊 I also have Lansinoh Hot & Cold Breast Pads as I didn’t like the hot water bottle method - these are so cheap (£11), but absolutely brilliant as you just pop them into the microwave and then inside your bra. Good luck mama! x

I use a pump for mine, I pump for about 30/60 mins and get 1ml per boob. I do this every 3 days or so
