Reduction in Breastfeeding

Hey Mamas! So I've gone from constantly feeding back to sleep all through the night - max sleep was 2 hours, sometimes 45 mins to now only feeding twice in the night. This is obviously fab from a sleep point of view, but I feel dreadful! Just feel like I've crashed - low mood, no energy or motivation and just don't feel myself at all. I know people say you feel rubbish when you stop breastfeeding, but I'm still doing 2x feeds. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep. I didn't really know why I was so irritable and crappy feeling until another post popped up on here. My son still feeds throughout the day and night but so much less. I think the drastic drop just hit my hormones like crazy. Feeling much better now. Just the usual level of ragey moodiness 😂😂 hope you feel better soon

Ah so sorry! But also yay that your little one is sleeping better! I've not breastfed for nearly two weeks now and have been feeling pretty shitty in myself, so maybe it's connected!? I always used to find the nights after dropping a feed I had terrible sleep too!

Yes! Look up ‘Post-weaning depression’…it may not feel like depression but the drop in prolactin and oxytocin when you cut down breastfeeding can affect people in really different ways. I got so, so sad and tearful, low self-esteem…I had no idea about this beforehand and couldn’t understand what was happening 😩 My mood improved after about 3 weeks, hope you feel better soon

Ps - I felt these affects as soon as I cut down, not when I’d totally stopped. The hormone crash comes when demand changes
